Charli xcx is adding another major Hollywood project to her growing filmography. The Brat singer has reportedly joined Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Gothic psychological horror film, What Happens at Night, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
According to an October 22 exclusive report by Variety, Charli will make a cameo appearance in the Apple Original Films and StudioCanal production. The details of her character remain under wraps.
The casting also marks an interesting continuation of her association with Scorsese, who recently appeared on the cover of her album Music, Fashion, Film.
What Is Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night About?
Based on Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel, What Happens at Night follows an American married couple who travel to a remote, snow-covered European town hoping to adopt a child.
However, their journey becomes increasingly unsettling as they encounter mysterious individuals and struggle to understand the strange circumstances surrounding their adoption.
The story gradually blurs the boundaries between reality and psychological uncertainty, making it an intriguing departure from Scorsese’s more familiar crime dramas.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence lead the film, with Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, Jared Harris and Welker White also appearing.
Patrick Marber, whose credits include Closer and Notes on a Scandal, adapted Cameron’s novel for the screen.
While Charli’s involvement has been reported by industry sources, her character’s identity and the extent of her appearance have not been disclosed.
Charli xcx Continues Her Hollywood Expansion
The casting comes during an increasingly active period in Charli’s acting career.
Following the enormous cultural impact of her 2024 album Brat, she has pursued several film projects, including The Moment, I Want Your Sex, The Gallerist and Faces of Death.
The Moment, directed by Aidan Zamiri, particularly reflects her willingness to experiment with cinema, using a fictionalized version of her own celebrity to examine the pressures surrounding pop stardom.
She has also contributed music to Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation.
Interestingly, her latest album, Music, Fashion, Film, features John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Martin Scorsese on its cover, representing the three creative worlds celebrated by the project.
Her appearance in Scorsese’s film therefore extends a creative connection that audiences had already seen through her music.
When Will What Happens at Night Release?
What Happens at Night marks Scorsese’s next narrative feature following 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which received ten Academy Award nominations.
Production began in the Czech Republic in March 2026, with Scorsese directing and producing alongside DiCaprio, Lawrence and Daniel Lupi.
The film is being developed through Apple Studios in partnership with StudioCanal.
An official release date has not been announced.
Although Charli’s role is expected to be brief, joining a Scorsese production alongside two Oscar-winning stars represents another significant step in her transition from pop phenomenon to increasingly versatile screen performer.
