Kajal Aggarwal is gearing up for one of the biggest projects of her career with Ramayana, but the actress has surprised fans with an honest update about her character. While the film boasts an ensemble featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Sunny Deol, Kajal says audiences shouldn’t expect to see much of Mandodari in the first chapter. Even though her screen time is limited, she believes being part of the ambitious mythological saga is a memorable experience in itself.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has already become one of the most talked-about Indian films in production, with its massive scale, visual ambition and star-studded cast creating enormous anticipation. As excitement around the project continues to grow, Kajal has now shared what fans can expect from her character when the first film arrives in cinemas next year.
Kajal Aggarwal Confirms Mandodari Has A Small Role
Speaking to Zoom, Kajal revealed that her character, Mandodari, appears only briefly in the first installment because a large portion of the story focuses on events before the narrative reaches Lanka. Since Mandodari is Ravana’s queen, her role naturally becomes more prominent only after the story shifts to his kingdom. The actress admitted that while her appearance is limited in Part One, she still feels fortunate to be associated with a film of such scale.
She said, “We’ve only filmed part one and of course, Lanka is lesser in that, and I am Mandodari. So my role is obviously very limited. Regardless of that, it’s been wonderful. It’s been an amazing experience to just be a part of something, a magnum opus which is going to be a world film. World cinema is a fantastic feeling and I’m just really grateful that I’m a part of something which is so close to our hearts.”
Her comments have given fans a clearer idea of how the story will unfold across the two films. While viewers may only get a glimpse of Mandodari in the first chapter, her role is expected to expand significantly once the narrative reaches Lanka in the second installment.
Kajal Has High Praise For Yash
Apart from discussing her own role, Kajal also spoke warmly about working alongside Kannada superstar Yash, who takes on the role of Ravana. She said she has admired his work for years and described the experience of sharing screen space with him as both exciting and inspiring. According to Kajal, Yash’s dedication to the project has been evident throughout the filming process.
She said, “He’s a wonderful actor. I’ve always admired his work, and it was amazing to work with him on this particular project. He’s so invested in the film as well. So I just think it’s really exciting for all of us. He’s extremely professional and of course immensely talented.”
Yash is not only playing Ravana but is also closely associated with the film as one of its producers, making his involvement extend beyond acting. His transformation into the iconic character has already generated massive curiosity following the release of the film’s first official glimpse.
Ramayana To Arrive In Two Parts
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being planned as a two-part cinematic event. The first installment is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while the second chapter is expected to arrive in Diwali 2027, allowing the makers to tell the epic story on a much larger scale.
The first glimpse released by the makers introduced audiences to Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Ravie Dubey as Lord Lakshman, while also offering a brief but impactful look at Yash’s Ravana. Although the teaser revealed only a few moments from the film, it generated enormous excitement thanks to its grand visuals and large-scale production values. With Kajal now confirming that Mandodari’s role has intentionally been kept brief in the opening chapter, fans will likely have to wait until the second film to see more of her journey alongside Ravana.
