Ramayana: Part 1 is set to arrive in Indian theatres on November 5, 2026, while Godzilla Minus Zero is reportedly moving its Indian release back by two weeks to avoid competing for premium screens. The reported scheduling change would give Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic a solo opening window while allowing the Japanese monster sequel more room to secure IMAX and other premium large-format (PLF) screenings.
According to Variety India, distributors of Godzilla Minus Zero have decided to postpone its Indian release, which was previously scheduled for November 6. However, PVR INOX Pictures has confirmed that the film will arrive in Indian cinemas this November without announcing an exact revised date. The two-week shift is therefore reported rather than fully confirmed in terms of its final schedule.
Why Godzilla Minus Zero Could Not Compete for IMAX Screens
The scheduling issue comes down to more than two films arriving on consecutive days. Both movies are designed for a large-screen experience, and their simultaneous theatrical runs could create a problem when it comes to allocating India’s limited premium-format screens.
Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, is expected to command substantial audience demand during its opening period. With the Indian epic also targeting IMAX and other premium formats, Godzilla Minus Zero could have faced severely restricted showtimes in those theatres.
For a Japanese production filmed for IMAX, limited access to those screens would be a significant disadvantage. Moving its release away from Ramayana could give exhibitors greater flexibility to schedule more shows and offer audiences a better opportunity to experience the film in its intended format.
Godzilla Minus Zero Follows the Oscar-Winning Minus One
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero follows 2023’s Godzilla Minus One, which won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The sequel brings back several cast members, including Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe and Sakura Ando, while continuing the franchise’s emphasis on large-scale destruction and human drama.
The film’s international schedule remains separate from its Indian plans. It is scheduled to open in Japan on November 3, with its North American theatrical release beginning November 6.
Meanwhile, Ramayana: Part 1 is planned as the first instalment of a two-part adaptation, with the second film scheduled for Diwali 2027.
If the reported postponement goes ahead as expected, the change could benefit both releases: Ramayana gets a clearer opening window, while Godzilla Minus Zero gains a better chance of securing premium screens. Moviegoers in India should watch for PVR INOX Pictures’ announcement of the revised release date before treating the two-week delay as final.
