Jessica Biel is drawing a firm line between supporting her son’s interests and giving him an unfair advantage in Hollywood. The actress recently explained why she allowed 11-year-old Silas, whom she shares with Justin Timberlake, to appear in Matchbox: The Movie but would not hand him a major acting role simply because of his famous parents.
Speaking on Josh Smith’s Great Chat Show, Biel said she wanted Silas to understand that young performers work hard to earn their opportunities. “You can’t just take a part from that person just because you’re my son,” she explained, adding, “We’re not doing that.”
Silas appears in a brief, non-speaking cameo toward the end of the Apple TV film, which stars John Cena. Biel said the limited nature of the part helped her feel comfortable letting him experience filmmaking without taking a substantial opportunity away from another young actor.
The actress also acknowledged that Silas has expressed an interest in acting, making it important to balance encouraging his ambitions with teaching him about fairness.
Biel explained that she would not have approved a larger role involving a major monologue. In her view, that kind of opportunity would need to be earned rather than provided through family connections.
She also wanted Silas to see the less glamorous side of acting. His time on set showed him that performers can spend long hours waiting without being called to work, offering a practical introduction to the realities of the profession.
Biel and Timberlake, who also have a younger son, Phineas, generally keep their children out of the public spotlight. She agreed to Silas’s cameo in part because producer Jules Daly is someone she trusts to protect both her and her son if a situation becomes uncomfortable.
The decision reflects Biel’s approach to parenting in an industry where celebrity connections can open doors. Rather than ruling out acting altogether, she appears willing to let Silas explore it while making clear that future opportunities must be earned.
Matchbox: The Movie began streaming on Apple TV on October 9, 2026. For now, Silas’s small appearance marks an introduction to the screen—not a guaranteed path to a Hollywood career.
