The Delhi High Court has directed the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy to remove the film’s teaser from various online platforms after actor Salman Khan raised objections over its promotional material. The court’s order comes amid allegations that the upcoming film draws clear inspiration from the actor’s long-running 1998 blackbuck poaching case and uses imagery that closely resembles his public persona.
The matter was heard on Monday, when the court also indicated that interviews given by the film’s producer, Amit Jani, would be taken down. The development marks a significant legal setback for the film even before its release, as the dispute over its promotional content continues to unfold.
Delhi High Court Gives Producer 24 Hours to Remove Teaser
Representing Salman Khan, advocate Parag Khandhar confirmed that the Delhi High Court had passed directions for the teaser’s removal. According to him, the court instructed producer Amit Jani to remove the teaser and specific interviews identified in Salman Khan’s application within 24 hours.
Khandhar said, “In an application filed by Salman Khan before Delhi High Court, today Delhi High Court directed Amit Jani film producer for removal of Kala Hiran movie teaser appearing on various social media platforms and certain interviews, the links of which are provided by Salman khan in his application. The court directed the producer to take it down with in 24 hours failing which concerned social media platforms like YouTube, etc are directed to take it down.”
Justice Jyoti Singh also observed during the hearing that she would order the removal of interviews given by producer Amit Jani that were mentioned in the actor’s application. If the producer fails to comply with the court’s directions within the stipulated time, online platforms hosting the content will be required to remove it.
Salman Khan Objects to Alleged References in Promotional Material
According to the application filed before the High Court, Salman Khan argues that the promotional material contains unmistakable references linking the film to him. One of the key objections relates to the portrayal of a character resembling the actor, including the use of an iconic blue bracelet, an accessory that has long been associated with Salman Khan in public appearances and films.
The actor contends that these visual elements create a direct association with his identity while referencing events connected to the widely known 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Based on these concerns, he sought judicial intervention to prevent the teaser and related promotional content from continuing to circulate online.
The court’s latest order is limited to the removal of the teaser and specified interviews and does not address the broader merits of the film itself. Any further legal proceedings regarding Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy are expected to depend on subsequent hearings and compliance with the High Court’s directions.
