Kartik Aaryan’s Captain India Revisits Yemen Rescue

Kartik Aaryan’s long-in-the-making Captain India now has a clearer real-world backdrop. According to Variety, Shimit Amin’s action drama unfolds amid the Houthi conflict in Yemen, drawing inspiration from India’s 2015 evacuation of civilians stranded in the war-torn country. Aaryan will play a pilot at the centre of the rescue, giving the actor a role built around high-stakes decisions rather than conventional on-screen heroics.

Why Yemen’s 2015 Evacuation Matters

The reference point appears to be India’s Operation Raahat, launched as the conflict intensified in 2015. In a statement to Parliament that April, then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said India had evacuated 4,741 Indian citizens and 1,947 foreign nationals from 48 countries. The operation used naval ships, civilian aircraft and Indian Air Force transport planes, with Djibouti serving as a key transit point.

Parliament was also told that a no-fly zone and a blockade of sea routes complicated the mission—exactly the kind of logistical pressure a grounded aviation drama could explore.

That detail makes the premise more interesting than a standard rescue thriller. Saving people meant coordinating across agencies, negotiating dangerous routes and moving civilians while fighting continued around them. However, the filmmakers have not specified which incidents or individuals will appear in the screenplay, so it would be premature to treat Aaryan’s character as a portrayal of any particular real-life pilot.

A Film That Took Five Years to Take Off

Captain India was first announced in 2021 with Hansal Mehta attached to direct. After a long development period and a director change, it began shooting in the UK in September 2026 with Amin, whose credits include Chak De! India and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. His return to feature filmmaking is notable: Rocket Singh arrived in 2009.

The screenplay is credited to Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava. T-Series and Baweja Studios are producing in association with Aaryan’s Dopamine Studios, while S B Films is handling production. Parvathy Thiruvothu has also been reported as part of the cast, although details of her role are not public.

With a theatrical release scheduled for August 13, 2027, Captain India is targeting India’s Independence Day weekend. The biggest unanswered question is how closely the film will follow Operation Raahat’s real chronology rather than reshape it into a fictionalised pilot-led drama.
