Philippa Northeast has joined Netflix’s upcoming survival drama Feral, replacing Quintessa Swindell in one of the show’s four leading roles. The Australian actress, recently seen in My Brilliant Career, will portray Suzy in the seven-episode adaptation of Shirley Conran’s bestselling novel Savages.
According to Variety’s October 21 exclusive report, Swindell has exited the production ahead of filming in Australia. No official reason has been provided for the casting change.
Netflix has subsequently updated its cast announcement to include Northeast.
Philippa Northeast Takes Over the Role of Suzy
Northeast will play Suzy, a character portrayed in Conran’s 1987 novel as privileged, sensual and accustomed to a comfortable lifestyle.
The casting represents another major Netflix project for Northeast following her leading performance as Sybylla Melvyn in My Brilliant Career.
Interestingly, the series reunites her with Genevieve O’Reilly, who also appeared in the Australian period drama.
Swindell, known for Black Adam and Netflix’s Trinkets, was initially announced as Suzy earlier in October.
Neither the actor nor Netflix has publicly explained the departure.
What Is Netflix’s Feral About?
Feral follows four women accompanying their mining-executive husbands on a corporate holiday to a tropical island.
However, their vacation becomes a dangerous survival ordeal when their husbands’ questionable business dealings place everyone at risk.
Forced to navigate the jungle, the women must overcome their differences while confronting unexpected threats.
The darkly comedic drama stars Jessica Gunning as Annie, Michelle Dockery as Julia and Genevieve O’Reilly as Silvana. Dolly de Leon also joins the ensemble as Elena.
The premise offers an intriguing contrast between privileged lifestyles and the brutal realities of survival.
When Will Feral Release on Netflix?
Feral is written by Jude Mack and directed by Emma Freeman, with Hera Pictures producing alongside Warner Bros. International Television Production.
Filming is expected to begin in Australia in 2026.
Although the project has received a seven-episode order, Netflix has not announced an official premiere date.
With Northeast joining an established ensemble, the production is preparing to bring Conran’s survival story to a new generation of viewers.
