Nancy Meyers’ beloved romantic comedy The Holiday is returning to theaters to celebrate its 20th anniversary, giving audiences another opportunity to experience the Christmas favorite on the big screen. Sony Pictures announced on October 21 that the film will begin its anniversary theatrical engagement on December 11, 2026, through Fathom Entertainment.
Originally released on December 8, 2006, the film stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black. Its return comes almost exactly two decades after its original theatrical debut.
The Holiday Celebrates 20 Years With Theatrical Return
Written and directed by Nancy Meyers, The Holiday follows two women whose disappointing romantic experiences lead them to exchange homes during Christmas.
Amanda Woods (Diaz), a successful Los Angeles businesswoman, travels to the English countryside, while Iris Simpkins (Winslet), a British journalist, spends the holidays in California.
Their unexpected adventures introduce Amanda to Graham (Law) and Iris to Miles (Black), creating two romantic stories connected by friendship and personal reinvention.
The ensemble also includes Eli Wallach, Rufus Sewell and Edward Burns.
The anniversary screenings will begin in participating theaters on December 11, although individual showtimes and ticket availability will vary by location.
How The Holiday Became a Christmas Favorite
Despite receiving mixed reviews during its original theatrical run, The Holiday became a commercial success, earning more than $200 million worldwide against a reported $85 million production budget.
Over the years, its combination of holiday romance, cozy settings and memorable performances has helped establish it as a seasonal favorite.
The re-release also arrives as interest in the film’s universe continues.
Is The Holiday Getting a Sequel?
While the theatrical return celebrates the original film, a separate television adaptation remains in development at Apple TV.
The proposed limited series will explore a similar home-exchange premise involving different characters rather than continuing Amanda and Iris’ stories.
Nancy Meyers and the original cast are not currently attached to that adaptation.
Importantly, the December 11 theatrical event is a re-release, not a sequel.
For longtime viewers, the anniversary offers a nostalgic return to one of the 2000s’ most recognizable Christmas romances.
