Glee is officially making a comeback! Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a reboot of Ryan Murphy’s hit musical comedy-drama, bringing the beloved high school series back more than 11 years after its original finale.

The announcement arrived on October 21, 2026, following months of speculation about reviving the award-winning Fox series. While Disney has not revealed the new show’s storyline or premiere date, original creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan have already developed a script.

The official Glee Instagram account celebrated the announcement with a promotional image confirming the show’s return.

Ryan Murphy Has Already Written a Glee Reboot Script

The revival will be produced by 20th Television, the studio behind the original series.

During a September interview with Entertainment Tonight, Murphy revealed that he had completed a script alongside Falchuk and Brennan.

“We have a script. Brad and Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something,” he said.

Murphy also confirmed that he had contacted approximately ten original cast members about returning.

Although those conversations were reportedly positive, Disney has not officially announced the reboot’s cast or storyline.

Is Lea Michele Returning as Rachel Berry?

One of the biggest questions surrounding the revival concerns Lea Michele, who portrayed ambitious performer Rachel Berry throughout the original series.

According to Variety and TheWrap, Michele is reportedly in negotiations to reprise her role, although a deal has not been formally announced.

The actress previously expressed enthusiasm about returning, explaining that Glee holds a special place in her heart.

Meanwhile, Heather Morris, who played Brittany Pierce, hinted at her character’s return through social media.

However, it remains unclear whether the reboot will follow the original characters as adults, introduce a new generation of students or combine both approaches.

Why Bringing Back Glee Is a Major Television Move

Originally airing between 2009 and 2015, Glee followed the New Directions show choir at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio.

The series became a cultural phenomenon through its musical covers, teenage drama and exploration of identity, bullying and acceptance.

Its ensemble included Michele, Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison.

The show won six Primetime Emmy Awards and helped introduce musical television to a younger mainstream audience.

However, a revival will also face the challenge of revisiting the franchise without several beloved cast members, including Monteith and Rivera, who have died.

The announcement confirms that Glee is returning, but its episode count, production schedule and release date remain undisclosed.

With the original series available on Hulu, Disney has an opportunity to introduce its musical world to another generation while reconnecting longtime viewers with characters they remember.
