Chris Pratt has confirmed that Star-Lord will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealing that Marvel Studios has already taken concrete steps to bring Peter Quill back. While the actor remains secretive about his next appearance, his latest comments suggest the long-awaited comeback has progressed beyond preliminary discussions.
Speaking on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast on October 21, 2026, Pratt discussed his conversations with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D’Esposito while promoting the second season of The Terminal List.
Chris Pratt Reveals Marvel Has Taken Action for Star-Lord’s Return
Pratt explained that he maintains a strong relationship with Marvel’s leadership and has been actively discussing his character’s future.
According to the actor, those conversations have already resulted in “hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise.”
He also reassured audiences that they would see Star-Lord again, although he could not disclose when.
The confirmation marks an encouraging development for a character whose return was promised more than three years ago.
However, Pratt did not reveal whether a screenplay has been completed, filming has been scheduled or a specific project has been selected.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Promised Star-Lord’s Return
The conclusion of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023 marked a significant turning point for Peter Quill.
After years of exploring space with his unconventional superhero family, Quill returned to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather.
Meanwhile, Rocket Raccoon assumed leadership of a new Guardians team.
Although the film concluded Gunn’s trilogy, its post-credits message explicitly promised that Star-Lord would return.
Interestingly, Pratt revealed earlier in 2026 that he had already pitched Marvel his own ideas for continuing Quill’s journey.
That suggests the actor is interested in shaping the character’s next chapter rather than simply making a brief appearance.
Will Star-Lord Return in Avengers: Doomsday?
With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars following in December 2027, speculation naturally surrounds a potential Star-Lord appearance.
Both films could accommodate returning MCU characters, particularly given Quill’s history with the Avengers in Infinity War and Endgame.
However, Marvel has not officially confirmed Pratt’s involvement in either upcoming Avengers movie.
A standalone Star-Lord project or another cosmic adventure also remains possible, but neither has been announced.
For now, Pratt’s comments provide the clearest indication yet that Marvel intends to fulfill its promise.
The question is no longer whether the actor wants to return, but when Marvel will finally reveal its plans for Peter Quill.
