Keerthy Suresh is thinking beyond acting, but she is not rushing into every aspect of filmmaking. The National Award-winning actor has been developing story ideas for years and hopes to bring her writing ambitions to life. However, producing films is a different commitment, and she is not ready to take that leap just yet.
The actor’s interest in writing is not new. In a 2025 interview with The New Indian Express, Suresh revealed that she had already spent considerable time working on scripts, even as her acting career kept her busy. “I have written some scripts in the past five years,” she said, adding that she remained optimistic about their future. “I am confident that eventually my scripts will take shape in the coming years.”
Those comments suggest that writing is more than a passing curiosity for Suresh. It is an ambition she has been nurturing alongside her work on screen, although finding enough time to develop her ideas has been a challenge.
Why Producing Is a Different Step
Writing a story and producing a film involve very different responsibilities. While the former allows a filmmaker to develop characters, themes and narrative ideas, producing can involve financing, assembling a team, managing schedules and overseeing a project through production and release.
Suresh’s reluctance to move into production immediately does not mean she has abandoned her broader filmmaking ambitions. Instead, it leaves room for her to explore writing at her own pace without committing prematurely to another demanding role in the industry.
She has also previously expressed interest in directing. In an interview with Cinema Express in December 2025, Suresh said she had been writing down ideas for five years, often using travel time to think through stories and discussing them with friends, including people working as assistant directors. She acknowledged that directing would require time she did not readily have.
What’s Next for Keerthy Suresh?
For now, acting remains a major part of Suresh’s professional life. Her recent work includes Dorothy, the Karthik Subbaraj-directed Tamil film that explored LGBTQ themes, while her upcoming Netflix series Akka is scheduled to premiere on October 30, 2026. The crime thriller also stars Radhika Apte and Tanvi Azmi.
Her choices reflect an interest in stories that offer something beyond conventional screen roles. Whether her writing eventually leads to a directorial debut remains to be seen, but she has already made clear that she wants to explore storytelling from another side of the camera.
For Suresh, the next chapter does not have to begin with a production banner. Developing her scripts and finding the right opportunity may be enough for now. Producing can wait until she feels ready to take on that responsibility.
