HYBE, SM, JYP & YG Unite For Fanomenon K-pop Festival

K-pop’s biggest entertainment companies have decided that competing on stage is no longer enough. Instead, they’re joining hands to create what could become one of the largest celebrations of Korean music and culture ever attempted. HYBE, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment have officially announced Fanomenon, a new festival and awards brand designed to bring artists, fans and Korean culture together under one global platform. Rather than being limited to concerts, the initiative promises an experience that blends music, fandom and cultural showcases while aiming to strengthen K-pop’s influence far beyond South Korea.

The ambitious project will officially begin in December 2027 with the Fanomenon Awards in South Korea before expanding internationally just a few months later. Its overseas debut is already planned for Los Angeles in May 2028, where organisers envision a large-scale outdoor music festival inspired by the atmosphere and scale of Coachella. The announcement marks one of the rare occasions where the country’s four biggest entertainment agencies have collaborated on a shared long-term venture instead of operating independently.

A New Chapter For K-Pop’s Global Expansion

The Fanomenon Awards will run from December 2 to December 12, 2027, making it an 11-day celebration rather than a traditional one-night awards ceremony. The main performances are scheduled to take place at Seoul Arena, the city’s upcoming 28,000-seat venue expected to open earlier that year in Chang-dong. Additional exhibitions, fan activities and cultural programmes will be hosted at KINTEX in Goyang, turning the event into a city-wide festival instead of limiting it to a single venue.

Beyond recognising artists, Fanomenon plans to celebrate the communities that have helped K-pop become a worldwide phenomenon. Organisers will honour the year’s ten most influential K-pop fan communities while presenting performances featuring some of the industry’s biggest acts. The goal is to spotlight the relationship between artists and fans, acknowledging that global fandom has played a crucial role in K-pop’s international success over the past decade.

Visitors attending the festival will find much more than live music. Interactive exhibitions dedicated to Korean beauty, food, fashion, television dramas, films, animation and webtoons are expected to transform the venues into a wider celebration of Korean popular culture. The organisers believe these experiences will encourage international visitors to explore every corner of the country’s creative industries rather than focusing solely on music performances.

Los Angeles Chosen For Fanomenon’s Global Debut

Following its South Korean launch, Fanomenon will make its international debut in Los Angeles in May 2028. Although the organisers have not revealed the exact venue, the event has already been described as a large-scale music festival inspired by Coachella’s format, combining multiple stages, headline performances and cultural experiences into one destination event.

Choosing Los Angeles reflects K-pop’s rapidly growing audience across North America. The city has become one of the genre’s strongest international markets, regularly hosting sold-out concerts, fan conventions and promotional events featuring Korean artists. Launching Fanomenon there gives the organisers access to a diverse audience while placing the festival in one of the world’s most recognised entertainment capitals.

The companies behind the initiative also revealed plans that extend well beyond a single annual festival. Through a newly formed joint venture, HYBE, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment intend to establish dedicated K-culture centres in major cities around the world. These venues are expected to include performance halls, exhibition spaces and facilities capable of hosting year-round cultural events that continue promoting Korean entertainment globally.

Government Support And Industry Expectations

The South Korean government is backing Fanomenon as part of its broader effort to expand the country’s cultural influence overseas. Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Chae Hwi-Young explained the vision behind the initiative, saying, “Korean culture is drawing global attention, and its growth must be sustained and expanded.” He added, “Our primary goal is to make it an event that people around the world want to attend, while earning the trust of the global entertainment industry.”

Government agencies are expected to assist organisers through immigration support, overseas promotion and safety management to help accommodate a growing number of international visitors. According to estimates from the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, Fanomenon could attract around 520,000 attendees, including approximately 200,000 international tourists. The project is also forecast to generate nearly 1 trillion won in economic impact, highlighting the increasing value of cultural tourism alongside South Korea’s entertainment exports.

The business model behind Fanomenon has also been designed with long-term sustainability in mind. Concerts will operate as ticketed events supported by sponsorships instead of relying entirely on public funding. Speaking about the initiative, JYP chief creative officer Park Jin-young said, “The most important thing is that this will make money. It is impossible to attract global artists and companies to an event that does not turn a profit.”

That commercial approach reflects how K-pop has evolved into one of South Korea’s strongest global industries. From record-breaking album sales and sold-out world tours to streaming dominance and brand partnerships, the genre has expanded well beyond music. Fanomenon appears to be the next major step in that journey, bringing together entertainment, tourism and Korean culture under a single global brand.

With more than a year remaining before the first Fanomenon Awards, many details—including the artist lineup and Los Angeles venue—are still under wraps. Even so, the collaboration between HYBE, SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment has already made the project one of the most closely watched developments in the K-pop industry. If it delivers on its ambitions, Fanomenon could become a landmark annual event that introduces millions of new fans to Korean entertainment while giving existing audiences a destination festival unlike anything the genre has seen before.
