Robert Pattinson Calls Steven Soderbergh ‘Completely Selfless’ for Helping Finish The Batman Part II

Robert Pattinson has praised Steven Soderbergh for stepping in to help complete filming on The Batman Part II, calling the filmmaker’s decision to support Matt Reeves during a difficult period “completely selfless.” The actor, who returns as Bruce Wayne in the DC sequel, expressed relief that the production can move forward while Reeves deals with an ongoing family matter.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, Pattinson said he was delighted that Soderbergh had offered to help finish the remaining principal photography, emphasizing that the filmmaker’s involvement would allow Reeves to complete the project he had spent years developing.

“I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt,” Pattinson said. “It’s incredibly generous of him – and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless.”

Robert Pattinson Praises Soderbergh’s Support for Matt Reeves

Pattinson explained that Reeves had already invested considerable time and effort in developing the sequel’s screenplay. With filming approaching completion, he believes Soderbergh’s willingness to collaborate rather than replace Reeves’ creative vision makes his involvement particularly valuable.

“I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done,” Pattinson added. “So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.’ And to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great.”

Soderbergh, the Oscar-winning director behind Traffic, Erin Brockovich and Ocean’s Eleven, reportedly approached Reeves himself with the offer to help complete filming.

In his own statement, Soderbergh praised Reeves’ filmmaking approach and explained that the objective was to capture footage that would integrate seamlessly with the material already filmed.

Matt Reeves Is Still Directing The Batman Part II

The production change follows an October pause announced by Warner Bros. and DC Studios after Reeves stepped away to focus on a family matter.

Importantly, Reeves has not been replaced as director. He confirmed on social media that he remains attached to the project and expressed gratitude for Soderbergh’s assistance.

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn also reiterated that Reeves would remain the film’s director, describing the offer from Soderbergh as deeply appreciated.

The arrangement allows principal photography to continue while Reeves works with Soderbergh and the team to preserve his intended vision.

Pattinson also indicated that production had already resumed, adding that he expected to return to set within days of the interview.

The Batman Part II Remains Scheduled for 2028

The sequel began filming in June 2026 after several delays and will once again feature Pattinson as Gotham City’s Caped Crusader.

The returning cast includes Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are also among the newly announced cast members.

The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 18, 2028.

With filming continuing and Reeves retaining creative leadership, Soderbergh’s involvement appears designed to keep the production moving without compromising the filmmaker’s vision for Gotham’s next chapter.
