Emily Osment has revealed that she requested an intimacy coordinator while filming romantic scenes with Montana Jordan on Young Sheldon because their age difference made her uncomfortable. The actress, who played Mandy McAllister opposite Jordan’s Georgie Cooper, was 30 when their characters’ relationship began, while her co-star was just 18.
The revelation comes from Jessica Radloff’s newly released book, Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy, which explores previously untold stories from the CBS sitcom’s seven-season run.
Emily Osment Explains Why the Age Gap Felt Uncomfortable
Osment joined Young Sheldon during Season 5 in 2022, playing Mandy, an older woman who becomes romantically involved with Georgie.
Although both actors were adults, their approximately 12-year age difference raised concerns for Osment when filming kissing scenes.
“That made me uncomfortable. He was a baby! A baby with a mullet,” she recalled in Radloff’s book.
Osment approached producer Tim Marx about bringing an intimacy coordinator onto the set. Although the production could not arrange one immediately, a coordinator was made available for subsequent episodes as Georgie and Mandy’s relationship developed.
“It made everything easier having one there,” Osment explained.
Her concern extended beyond her own comfort. She also wondered whether Jordan, who had less professional experience, understood that he could request additional support during intimate scenes.
For Osment, the priority was ensuring both performers felt comfortable rather than expecting the younger actor to speak up independently.
Young Sheldon Director Acknowledges Production Oversight
Director Alex Reid admitted that the production team initially overlooked the need for an intimacy coordinator because Young Sheldon did not feature sex scenes.
Reid said they “totally dropped the ball” and recalled an awkward kissing sequence filmed inside a car.
According to the director, Osment and Jordan barely knew each other when the scene was filmed, adding to their discomfort. Series co-creator Steve Molaro also supported Osment’s request, acknowledging her right to ask for a coordinator.
The situation highlights an important distinction: intimacy coordination is not limited to explicit sexual content. Even seemingly straightforward kissing scenes can require additional preparation, communication and clearly established boundaries.
Georgie and Mandy’s Relationship Became a Spin-Off
The actors’ real-life age difference closely reflected their characters’ controversial storyline.
When they first met, Georgie was 17 and Mandy was 29. Georgie initially claimed to be 21, while Mandy presented herself as 25. Their relationship eventually led to an unexpected pregnancy.
Despite the initial awkwardness, Osment and Jordan developed a successful on-screen partnership.
After Young Sheldon concluded in 2024, they continued playing their characters in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which premiered later that year.
The CBS spin-off returned for Season 3 on October 8, 2026, continuing the couple’s story as they navigate marriage, parenthood and family responsibilities.
Osment’s comments offer a behind-the-scenes perspective on how the actors developed that chemistry. Rather than creating tension, her request helped establish a more comfortable working environment for a partnership that has now continued across two television series.
