Nearly two decades after its original release, Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan is reportedly set to return to theatres. According to a new report, the 2007 cult classic will be re-released on July 31, 2026, just weeks before the arrival of Awarapan 2. The strategy is expected to reignite interest in the franchise by giving fans a chance to relive the emotional drama on the big screen while introducing the story to a new generation of moviegoers.
If the reported release date remains unchanged, the re-release will coincide with the theatrical debut of Tom Holland and Zendaya’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Although the Marvel blockbuster is expected to dominate globally, the nostalgic appeal of Awarapan could make for an interesting box office weekend.
Awarapan may return before the sequel
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the makers are planning to bring Awarapan back to cinemas on July 31 ahead of the sequel’s release on August 14. While an official announcement is still awaited, the reported move follows a growing trend in the film industry where successful older titles are re-released shortly before their sequels hit theatres.
Quoting a source, the report stated, “Awarapan will re-release on July 31. The first part continues to hold strong recall value due to the casting, subject, emotional and massy moments, and, most importantly, the timeless music score. Hence, it was decided to bring it to cinemas before the release of Awarapan 2.”
Released in 2007, Awarapan gradually earned cult status despite its modest theatrical run. Over the years, the film has built a loyal fan following thanks to its emotional storyline, Emraan Hashmi’s performance, and a soundtrack that continues to remain popular among audiences.
Spider-Man box office clash could be interesting
If the current release schedule stays intact, Awarapan will arrive in theatres on the same day as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. While the Hollywood superhero film is expected to secure the majority of premium screens and generate massive global collections, the Bollywood re-release could still attract viewers looking to revisit one of Emraan Hashmi’s most loved films.
