Kriti Sanon is reportedly preparing to enter the world of full-fledged horror with a new, large-scale film backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. Unlike the studio’s popular horror-comedies, the untitled project is expected to focus on genuine scares, placing the actress at the centre of a darker story.
Sanon has finalised the project as her next film, with pre-production already underway. However, Maddock Films has not officially announced the movie.
Kriti Sanon Takes on a New Horror Challenge
Although Sanon previously appeared in Maddock’s supernatural comedy Bhediya (2022), the upcoming project reportedly marks her first attempt at an out-and-out horror film.
Interestingly, the actress has previously admitted that she does not particularly enjoy watching horror movies. However, a source told Variety India that she wanted to explore the genre to challenge herself as a performer.
The film is expected to feature a strong female protagonist, potentially offering Sanon another substantial leading role after her National Award-winning performance in Mimi.
The storyline, director and supporting cast remain undisclosed.
How Will This Film Differ From Maddock’s Horror Universe?
Maddock Films has built a successful horror-comedy franchise through movies including Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and Stree 2.
Those films generally combine supernatural threats with humour, whereas Sanon’s upcoming project is reportedly being developed as a more straightforward horror experience.
However, there is no official confirmation that the film belongs to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
The project also extends Sanon’s long-running association with the production company. Their collaborations include Raabta, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, Mimi, Bhediya and the recently released Cocktail 2.
For Sanon, the reported project represents another genre shift following her romantic, comedic and dramatic performances.
While preparations are reportedly underway, the film’s title, shooting schedule and release date have not been announced.
