Vijay Deverakonda remains confident that Ranabaali will be remembered as one of Telugu cinema’s finest films of 2026, despite its mixed critical reception. The actor believes Rahul Sankrityan’s historical action drama will hold a special place in his career long after its theatrical run.
Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad on October 16, Vijay expressed pride in the film after watching its completed version with visual effects and music.
Vijay Deverakonda Calls Ranabaali a Career-Defining Film
Reflecting on his experience, Vijay said, “I felt this will be one of the best films of Telugu cinema this year.”
The actor explained that Ranabaali, his 14th film, would remain significant even after he completes 25 or 30 projects.
He believes certain performances continue to resonate with audiences long after their release, and Ranabaali could become one of those defining experiences.
Ranabaali Was Made for More Than Box Office Success
Vijay emphasised that the filmmakers wanted to tell an important story rather than simply chase commercial records.
Set against the Great Madras Famine of 1876–78, Ranabaali explores colonial oppression through a fictional resistance narrative.
The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Jayamma, marking the couple’s third on-screen collaboration after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.
Rashmika similarly described the film as a story about hunger, survival, love and standing up for one’s community.
Can Ranabaali Overcome Its Mixed Reviews?
Released on October 16, Ranabaali has received criticism for its excessive violence, uneven screenplay and emotional storytelling.
However, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has publicly praised its historical themes and Vijay’s performance.
The contrasting reactions make Vijay’s confidence particularly interesting. While the actor believes the film’s importance will become clearer over time, its lasting reputation will ultimately depend on how audiences respond beyond the opening weekend.
