Ranveer Singh’s upcoming zombie thriller Pralay is steadily building excitement, and a fresh update suggests the makers are aiming for an international-scale cinematic experience. While the film has already generated buzz for its unique genre and ambitious vision, the latest development points to another major addition behind the scenes. According to reports, the production has brought in an acclaimed Hollywood cinematographer to shape the film’s visual style.
The project marks Ranveer’s next big outing after the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar, and expectations are already running high among fans. Although the makers have remained tight-lipped about the storyline, each new announcement continues to raise curiosity surrounding what is being described as one of the most ambitious zombie films to come out of Indian cinema.
Narcos cinematographer reportedly joins the team
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, renowned cinematographer Juan Carlos Gil, best known for his work on Netflix’s globally acclaimed crime drama Narcos, has joined Pralay as the film’s director of photography. The report states that the filmmakers were looking for someone capable of delivering large-scale visuals with an international appeal, making Gil a natural choice for the project.
A source quoted by the publication claimed that the creative team wants Pralay to stand apart from conventional Bollywood action films by adopting a more cinematic, Hollywood-inspired visual language. The report also states that Juan Carlos Gil is excited to work on the project, while the production team is equally pleased to have an internationally recognised cinematographer associated with the film.
Interestingly, Pralay will not be Gil’s first Indian production. The cinematographer has also worked on White, starring Vikrant Massey. Directed by Montoo Bassi, the political thriller is inspired by the true story of spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s involvement in Colombia’s peace process and is backed by filmmaker Siddharth Anand, known for blockbusters including Pathaan and War.
Pralay promises a new take on the zombie genre
Directed by Jai Mehta and produced by Birla Studios along with Hansal Mehta, Pralay is being positioned as a large-scale zombie thriller. The film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Kalyani Priyadarshan, who is making one of the biggest appearances of her career in a Hindi film. Industry reports suggest the makers are investing heavily in visual effects, action choreography, and world-building to create a theatrical spectacle unlike previous Indian zombie films.
The screenplay has been written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, who previously collaborated with Ranveer Singh on Lootera. That earlier film earned praise for its emotional storytelling and visual richness, making their reunion another aspect fans are eagerly watching.
Reports indicate that Ranveer is expected to begin filming Pralay next month, with the first shooting schedule likely to conclude before Diwali. After completing that phase, the actor is reportedly planning to take paternity leave before returning to the project in 2027. Neither the makers nor the actor have officially confirmed the production schedule, but the reported timeline suggests filming will temporarily pause during his break.
Expectations continue to grow
Although plot details remain under wraps, Pralay has already become one of the most talked-about upcoming Hindi films thanks to its unusual premise and impressive creative team. The reported addition of Juan Carlos Gil further strengthens the perception that the makers are aiming for a global cinematic standard, particularly in terms of visuals and scale.
For Ranveer Singh, the film represents another opportunity to explore a genre rarely attempted in mainstream Bollywood. If the reported plans translate successfully onto the big screen, Pralay could become one of the most ambitious zombie thrillers produced in India. With filming expected to begin soon, fans will now be watching closely for the first official look and further announcements from the production team.
