Shilpa Shinde has once again spoken about one of the most difficult phases of her career, this time sharing details that go beyond her long-running dispute with the makers of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. During a recent episode of Lock Upp, the television actor recalled the intense harassment she says she faced after her exit from the hit sitcom in 2016. Among the incidents she described was receiving a message from a media person who allegedly claimed to possess an intimate video of her, leaving the actor terrified before she eventually discovered it was fake.
The conversation unfolded while Shilpa was speaking with fellow contestant Varun Yadav. As she reflected on the controversy that followed her departure from the popular comedy series, the actor said the period became emotionally exhausting because she constantly felt targeted. According to her, the alleged MMS episode was one of the most disturbing experiences she had to deal with during that time.
Shilpa Shinde recalls the alleged fake MMS threat
Describing the incident in detail, Shilpa said, “Voh mera jo journey tha, 2015-16, I was on a show. Show se mujhe nikala gaya, all that drama happened, uske baad mere peeche pade hue hi the bahut saare toh mere pass koi rasta hi nahi tha. Uske baad ek media waali mujhe ek video clip bhejti hai. Maine kaha kya hai yeh? Voh bolti aapka video hai. I was like my video? Toh boli dekhiye kholke. Toh 2 minute kholne se pehle jab download ho raha tha, I kept thinking kahin yeh video mere changing room se toh nahi hai. Ek dum thandi body hogyi meri.”
The actor explained that she was sitting inside her car while the file was downloading and spent those few minutes fearing the worst. She said the possibility that someone may have secretly recorded her in a changing room left her shaken even before she had watched the clip. According to Shilpa, those moments remain among the most frightening memories from that chapter of her life.
When the download was complete, she discovered that the video did not feature her. Instead, she said it showed a blurred clip of a woman lying on top of a man. Shilpa claimed she immediately questioned the sender, only to be allegedly threatened that the clip could still be released publicly. Recalling her response, she said, “I said, have you lost it? See how dirty the bedsheet is. I know when my last relationship was and with whom. This is impossible. She asked, ‘Should I release this?’ Just imagine they stooped to this level. Then I sat at the cybercrime unit for six to seven hours I finally tracked it down.”
According to the actor, the clip had actually originated from a Hindi pornographic video. She alleged that someone had freeze-framed the woman’s face from certain angles, blurred the footage and circulated it with misleading claims suggesting it featured her. Shilpa further recalled, “Koi bhi bolta hai mera tha? sabhi bolte hain naa mera nahi tha. The watchman in my society is asking my mother, ‘has your daughter’s MMS been leaked?’ What do I say? Maine bahut kuch jhela. When I was about to enter Bigg Boss, they even filed criminal cases against me, and I had to go into the show after getting bail. Just imagine the extent they went to and the level of harassment I had to endure.”
The controversy surrounding Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain
Shilpa’s exit from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain in 2016 became one of television’s most talked-about disputes. The production house accused the actor of breaching her contract and behaving unprofessionally, while Shilpa consistently maintained that she had not received her dues and that she had faced harassment and an unhealthy work environment during the show’s production. The disagreement soon escalated into legal proceedings, attracting widespread attention across the television industry.
In 2017, Shilpa also filed a sexual harassment complaint against producer Sanjay Kohli. However, the legal dispute was eventually resolved through an out-of-court settlement, bringing an end to years of litigation. The matter returned to the headlines earlier this year after Shilpa made a surprising admission during an appearance on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast.
Speaking about her decision at the time, Shilpa acknowledged that the complaint was not based on actual sexual harassment. She explained, “At that time, I filed the complaint because I felt I had no other option left. All doors were closed on me.” The actor also said that, because she comes from a legal background, she understood the seriousness of such allegations. According to Shilpa, the dispute was eventually settled privately, her pending payments were cleared, and both parties agreed not to discuss the matter publicly.
Shilpa’s latest comments on Lock Upp have once again brought attention to one of the most turbulent periods of her television career. While she continues to revisit those experiences in public conversations, her account also reflects the emotional impact that prolonged legal disputes, public scrutiny and online rumours can have on individuals working in the entertainment industry.
