Laurene Powell Jobs Buys $250 Million Stake in Skydance

Billionaire investor and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs has invested $250 million in David Ellison’s Skydance Corporation, becoming a major new investor in the Hollywood media company following its merger with Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.

According to a regulatory filing highlighted by Variety on October 19, 2026, Powell Jobs acquired approximately 20.83 million shares at $12 each. The investment coincided with her appointment to Skydance’s board of directors earlier this month.

The move strengthens Powell Jobs’ involvement in the entertainment industry as Ellison attempts to build one of Hollywood’s most influential media companies.

How Much of Skydance Does Laurene Powell Jobs Own?

A filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reveals that Powell Jobs acquired 20,833,333 Class B shares on October 6, representing an investment of approximately $250 million.

The shares are held indirectly through a trust rather than in her personal name.

Separately, she received 33,118 restricted stock units as part of her board appointment. Those shares are generally scheduled to vest by Skydance’s 2027 annual shareholders’ meeting.

Powell Jobs officially joined the board alongside former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was also appointed as a board adviser.

David Ellison remains chairman and CEO, while Ynon Kreiz serves as co-CEO.

Why Powell Jobs’ Investment Matters for Hollywood

Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, is already an established media investor through Emerson Collective, the organization she founded in 2004.

Her portfolio includes a majority investment in The Atlantic, alongside investments in production companies Anonymous Content and Concordia Studio.

Skydance, however, represents a considerably larger entertainment business.

The company’s recently completed merger brings together Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., HBO, CBS, CNN and several major entertainment franchises under one corporate structure.

For Powell Jobs, the investment expands her financial exposure to film, television, streaming and news media.

Her board position also gives her a formal role in corporate oversight, although it does not mean she will directly manage individual studios or influence specific productions.

David Ellison Faces a Major Integration Challenge

Powell Jobs’ investment comes as Ellison tackles the enormous task of integrating Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.

The newly combined company faces substantial debt, restructuring expenses and growing competition from Netflix, Disney and other streaming platforms.

Skydance has outlined plans to generate billions in cost savings while maintaining a substantial film and television production pipeline.

The challenge will be balancing financial discipline with the creative investment needed to keep audiences interested.

Powell Jobs’ $250 million commitment is a notable endorsement of Skydance’s future, but its commercial success will ultimately depend on how effectively Ellison manages the newly expanded entertainment empire.
