A fresh legal dispute has emerged around a film allegedly inspired by one of Bollywood’s longest-running controversies. Actor Salman Khan has reportedly sent a legal notice to the team behind Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, a project that is believed to draw from the actor’s blackbuck hunting case. The move has brought the unreleased film into the spotlight even before production has properly taken shape, with both sides now publicly defending their positions.
According to reports, the notice was issued by Salman Khan’s legal representatives on April 24, 2026. The film is being directed by Bharat Srinate and produced by Amit Jani. Salman’s team has demanded that all work connected to the project be stopped immediately, including development, promotional activities, and any further circulation of materials related to the film.
Legal Team Raises Concerns Over Ongoing Court Matter
The central argument made by Salman Khan’s lawyers is that the proposed film could influence public perception while the blackbuck case remains pending before the Rajasthan High Court. The notice reportedly states that dramatizing or sensationalising events connected to the matter could affect the fairness of ongoing legal proceedings and create prejudice against the actor.
The legal team has also argued that the project may infringe upon Salman Khan’s personality and publicity rights. According to the notice, the actor has neither approved nor authorized the use of his name, image, reputation, or any events allegedly linked to him. Lawyers representing the star reportedly believe that presenting such material without consent could cause reputational harm and create an unfair association between Salman and the film.
Reports further claim that concerns increased after casting director Akshay Pandey allegedly approached actors while sharing a synopsis and character sketches that referenced the blackbuck case. Salman’s representatives argue that these materials suggest a direct connection to the actor despite the absence of any authorization from his side.
Producer Hits Back After Notice Goes Public
The notice reportedly goes beyond objections related to court proceedings and accuses the filmmakers of attempting to capitalize on Salman Khan’s popularity. It alleges that the project contains misleading and defamatory elements that could damage the actor’s public image and professional standing. The legal team has also sought a written unconditional apology from all parties associated with the film.
In addition, the notice warns that if the demands are not met within 24 hours, further civil and criminal action may be pursued, including claims for compensation and damages. Producer Amit Jani, however, has publicly pushed back against the allegations. Reacting through a Facebook post, he claimed that the purpose of such notices is often to pressure people into backing down. In his response, Jani suggested that he would not be intimidated by legal threats and signaled that he intends to continue defending his position. His comments have added another layer of tension to a dispute that is now being closely watched across the film industry.
