Yash Defends Ramayana VFX as Malhotra Eyes Spin-Offs

Yash has urged audiences to look beyond minor visual-effects shortcomings in Ramayana, as producer Namit Malhotra revealed ambitious plans to expand the mythological epic into a larger entertainment franchise featuring character-based spin-offs.

Speaking at the film’s Telugu pre-release event in Hyderabad on October 19, 2026, the actor, who portrays Ravana and co-produces the project, defended Malhotra’s vision of bringing Indian storytelling to global audiences.

The event also generated excitement around Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama and Sunny Deol’s appearance as Lord Hanuman, ahead of the film’s November 5 theatrical release.

Yash Responds to Ramayana VFX Criticism

Ramayana’s promotional material has attracted considerable attention, with viewers praising its scale while questioning certain CGI sequences and visual effects.

Addressing the criticism, Yash encouraged audiences to appreciate the ambition behind the production rather than concentrate exclusively on technical imperfections.

“So, let’s watch Ramayana with an open mind,” he said.

Yash also praised Malhotra for investing significant resources and personal commitment into the adaptation, arguing that Indian cinema needs filmmakers willing to undertake projects of international scale.

However, his remarks have sparked further debate online, with some viewers arguing that an expensive production should remain open to criticism.

Ranbir Kapoor and Sunny Deol Bring Star Power

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.

A glimpse of Deol’s Hanuman look was teased during the Hyderabad event, adding another major attraction to the promotional campaign.

The film’s visual effects are being handled by DNEG, while Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman have composed its music.

Namit Malhotra Envisions a Larger Ramayana Universe

Perhaps the event’s most significant long-term development was Malhotra’s ambition to expand Ramayana beyond its two planned theatrical installments.

The producer discussed potential standalone stories exploring characters including Hanuman, Surpanakha and Jatayu.

His broader vision also includes video games, merchandise, themed attractions and other entertainment experiences.

Such an approach could allow supporting characters to receive greater narrative attention than a two-part adaptation can accommodate.

However, these projects remain proposals. No individual spin-off has received a confirmed production schedule or release date.

Ramayana: Part 1 arrives worldwide on November 5, 2026, while the second installment is planned for Diwali 2027.

For now, the immediate challenge is delivering a compelling first film. Its reception could significantly influence whether Malhotra’s proposed entertainment universe moves beyond the planning stage.
