The excitement around SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi has exploded ever since the filmmaker unveiled the film’s high-voltage trailer at the Globe Trotter event in Hyderabad. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film is shaping up to be one of Rajamouli’s most ambitious creations yet. Now, music composer MM Keeravani has given fans a fresh tease — and it’s all about scale.
“They Can Expect Grandeur” — Keeravani on Varanasi’s Music
Speaking to PTI during his appearance at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Keeravani shared a small but electrifying hint about the film’s soundtrack.
“They can expect grandeur… more than that I’m not supposed to reveal. There will be six songs in the film.”
He added that working on the project has come with absolute clarity.
“There is no pressure when there’s clarity and conviction in what you do. Pressure only comes from confusion — and here, there’s none.”
Keeravani’s long-running collaboration with Rajamouli has already given audiences films like Student No. 1, Magadheera, Eega and Baahubali. His Oscar-winning Naatu Naatu from RRR raised expectations even higher for their next outing — and Varanasi seems poised to meet that bar.
A Film Rooted in Myth, Mystery & Scale
The announcement video alone sent fans into a frenzy. The teaser opens with an asteroid crashing toward Earth and fragments landing across Varanasi, Antarctica, Africa and other locations — suggesting a story spanning eras and civilizations.
Hints of Ramayana-inspired mythology are woven throughout the visuals:
- Mahesh Babu’s character Rudhra appears blood-soaked, brandishing a trishul, and riding a bull
- Ancient temples loom in the background
- The narrative jumps across multiple time periods
Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the role of the antagonist Kumbha, adding even more star power to the mythic canvas.
Rajamouli’s Response to the Trailer Frenzy
The announcement video triggered massive social media buzz within minutes of release. Rajamouli later thanked fans with a heartfelt message on X, writing:
“THANK YOU EVERYONE for all the love, accolades and applause for the #Varanasi Announcement Video. Our whole team is grateful.”
Final Words
With Rajamouli’s vision, Keeravani’s music, and a powerhouse cast led by Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most anticipated epics. The promise of “grandeur” in its soundtrack only adds to the steadily growing excitement.
