But back home, the film’s box office trend tells a slightly different story.
A Mixed Start at the Domestic Box Office
The sequel followed a familiar weekend rhythm but with softer energy compared to the first film. De De Pyaar De 2 opened at ₹8.75 crore, grew to ₹12.25 crore on Saturday, and reached ₹13.75 crore on Sunday — taking its Indian weekend total to ₹34.75 crore. Respectable numbers, but still a notch below the 2019 film’s strong word-of-mouth-driven momentum.
That’s why Monday became the key test — and the film closed at ₹4.25 crore, noticeably lower than the first film’s solid ₹6.19 crore Monday. The gap isn’t huge, but it is telling, especially in a year where sequels have shown unpredictable results. While films like Raid 2 and Housefull 5 brought crowds back, others like War 2 and Son of Sardaar 2 couldn’t meet expectations.

The sequel picks up where the original left off. De De Pyaar De revolved around Ashish (Ajay Devgn), a 50-year-old who falls in love with Ayesha (Rakul), much younger than him — a relationship that sparks drama with his ex-wife Manju (Tabu) and his grown children.
In De De Pyaar De 2, Ayesha takes Ashish to meet her family, opening the door for fresh conflicts, humour and emotional chaos.
