KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza is officially returning to group activities in January 2027 following a months-long break to focus on her health and well-being. HYBE x Geffen Records confirmed the news on October 8, announcing that the Filipino-American singer will resume activities during the first week of the new year. The timing is particularly significant for Indian fans, as KATSEYE is scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza India in Mumbai later that month.
The management company confirmed Sophia’s return through an official statement shared on Weverse, offering the clearest update on her future with the group since she stepped away in August 2026.
“We are happy to share that Sophia will resume group activities with KATSEYE beginning the first week of January 2027,” the statement read.
HYBE x Geffen also confirmed that the 23-year-old singer will not participate in the North American leg of THE WILDWORLD TOUR or any remaining promotional activities in 2026. The company said Sophia has been prioritising her health with its support and thanked the group’s fans, known as EYEKONS, for their patience and understanding.
Sophia opens up about her recovery and planned return
Sophia began her hiatus in August 2026 to focus on her mental health and wellness, stepping away during an especially busy period for KATSEYE. Her absence meant missing important performances and promotional commitments as the group continued expanding its international presence.
Following the announcement of her return, Sophia shared a personal message on Instagram Stories, thanking fans for supporting her decision to take time away from performing. She explained that she had been receiving care, learning more about her physical and emotional needs, and developing healthier ways to look after herself.
The singer also acknowledged that missing the remainder of the year’s tour was difficult. However, she said the experience had helped her understand the importance of taking time to recover rather than continuing to push herself through demanding schedules.
“My hope is to return feeling happier, healthier, stronger, more grounded, and ready to give you everything I’ve been wanting to give you,” Sophia wrote.
She also expressed her excitement about reuniting with her bandmates, adding, “I can’t wait to share the stage with my sisters again and look out to all of you!”
Her message makes an important distinction between having a confirmed return date and immediately resuming a full performance schedule. Although management has announced when Sophia will rejoin group activities, she intends to continue focusing on her well-being and training throughout the remaining months of 2026.
Will Sophia perform with KATSEYE at Lollapalooza India 2027?
Sophia’s January comeback has created an interesting possibility for KATSEYE’s upcoming appearance at Lollapalooza India, which will take place at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course on January 23 and 24, 2027.
KATSEYE is already part of the festival’s confirmed lineup, joining international artists including Olivia Dean, Limp Bizkit, Fontaines D.C. and 5 Seconds of Summer. The festival will bring together performers from several genres across its two-day programme, with the global girl group among its major pop attractions.
Since Sophia is scheduled to resume activities during the first week of January, her return would come ahead of the Mumbai festival. This makes her participation a realistic possibility and gives Indian EYEKONS a reason to look forward to the performance.
However, HYBE x Geffen has not separately confirmed that Sophia will perform at Lollapalooza India. The official announcement establishes her return to group activities, but it does not provide a detailed schedule of individual appearances. Until the group or festival organisers confirm her participation, it should be treated as expected rather than guaranteed.
The distinction matters because returning to regular activities does not necessarily mean an artist will immediately participate in every scheduled performance. Sophia’s actual involvement in the Mumbai concert will depend on the group’s subsequent announcements.
What Sophia’s comeback means for KATSEYE
Sophia’s planned return also comes during a period when KATSEYE has been performing without two members of its original six-person lineup. Manon Bannerman has been on a separate hiatus since February 2026, while Sophia’s break began in August. During their absence, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung have continued the group’s performances and promotional activities.
Although Sophia’s comeback now has an official timeline, HYBE x Geffen has not announced a corresponding return date for Manon. As a result, Sophia’s return should not be interpreted as confirmation that all six members will reunite onstage in January.
Formed through The Debut: Dream Academy in 2023, KATSEYE has developed into an internationally recognised pop act with songs including Touch, Gnarly and Gabriela. The group’s growing popularity has also made its live performances an important part of its global expansion, particularly as it reaches audiences outside North America.
For Indian fans, the next significant development will be confirmation of the group’s lineup for Lollapalooza India. Sophia’s return has now been scheduled, and the Mumbai performance falls within that timeline. The remaining question is whether the January festival will become one of her first major appearances after spending nearly five months away from group activities.
