After months of speculation, waiting, and endless fan theories online, Disney+ has finally confirmed that production on Moving Season 2 is officially underway. And honestly, this already feels like one of the biggest Korean streaming events currently in development. The first season became a massive global success back in 2023, surprising many viewers with how emotionally grounded and cinematic its superhero storytelling felt compared to typical comic-book adaptations.
The new season is bringing back most of the major cast members audiences connected with during the first run. Ryu Seungryong, Han Hyojoo, Zo Insung, and Go Younjung are all officially returning, while actors Ryu Seungbum, Kim Dohoon, and Shim Dalgi will also reprise their roles from Season 1. Meanwhile, newcomer Won Gyubin joins the expanding ensemble and will reportedly take on the role of Kim Bongseok.
The storyline for Season 2 picks up directly after the shocking Jeongwon High School incident that completely changed the lives of the main characters during the first season’s finale. According to the early synopsis, the surviving families are now trying to return to something resembling a normal life. But as expected in the Moving universe, peace never lasts very long. Behind the camera, the original creative team is also returning. Kim Seonghun, best known internationally for directing Kingdom, is once again helming the new season. Meanwhile, writer Kangfull continues expanding the superhero universe he originally created through his webtoons. Kangfull not only wrote the original Moving comic series but also handled the screenplay adaptation for Season 1 himself.
And it’s becoming increasingly clear that Disney and Kangfull have much bigger plans for this universe now. After Moving became a hit, the creative world was already expanded through another connected project, Light Shop. Many fans now believe Disney is slowly building a large interconnected Korean fantasy and supernatural universe around Kangfull’s stories, something that could eventually become one of Asia’s most ambitious streaming franchises.
Kangfull himself recently hinted that Season 2 aims to push things even further creatively. According to the writer, the first season was designed to establish a new standard for Korean superhero storytelling, but the second season intends to raise that benchmark much higher. Honestly, considering how cinematic and emotionally layered Season 1 already looked, expectations are now dangerously high among fans.
Disney executives also seem fully aware of the franchise’s growing global importance. Carol Choi, executive vice president of APAC original content strategy at Disney, described Moving as proof that premium Korean storytelling with emotional depth and cinematic ambition can resonate worldwide. And she’s honestly not wrong. The show didn’t just perform well in Korea — it became one of Disney+ and Hulu’s biggest Korean originals internationally during 2023.
The success story behind the first season was huge. Following its release in August 2023, Moving quickly turned into the most-viewed Korean original on Disney+ and Hulu that year. The series also earned critical recognition across multiple award platforms. It received a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards and dominated the Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards at the Busan International Film Festival, winning categories including Best Creative, Best Writer, Best Visual Effects, and acting awards for several cast members.
The series also continued its awards momentum at the Daejong International Film Awards, where it won Best Series while Han Hyojoo picked up Best Actress in a Series. Those wins helped cement Moving as more than just another streaming hit. It became one of the rare Korean genre dramas that successfully balanced blockbuster spectacle with emotional storytelling.
Right now, Disney has not announced an official release window for Season 2 yet. But with filming finally beginning, fans at least know the next chapter is no longer just a rumour. And honestly, considering how explosively popular the first season became, expectations for this return are probably going to be enormous across the global K-drama audience.
