Forensic Files is returning to original production with 20 new episodes, bringing fresh investigations to one of television’s longest-running true-crime franchises.
According to Variety, Radial Entertainment has partnered with Content Partners and ITV Studios to revive the series, capitalizing on the growing popularity of classic crime documentaries across streaming platforms.
The new episodes will retain the franchise’s central focus: explaining how scientific evidence helps investigators solve complex criminal cases.
Why Forensic Files Is Returning Now
Originally launched in 1996 as Medical Detectives, Forensic Files became known for its detailed examinations of DNA evidence, toxicology, fingerprints and other forensic techniques.
The original series ended production in 2011, although Forensic Files II subsequently premiered on HLN in 2020.
Content Partners acquired the original show’s approximately 400-episode library in 2024. Those episodes remain available across streaming services, including Tubi, Pluto TV and Peacock, alongside digital platforms such as YouTube.
The latest revival reflects a broader industry strategy: using established television franchises to attract new streaming audiences while encouraging viewers to explore older episodes.
When Will the New Forensic Files Episodes Premiere?
The production partners have not announced an official premiere date or confirmed which streaming service will debut the 20 episodes.
Details about the narrator and featured investigations also remain undisclosed.
For longtime viewers, the revival promises new cases while preserving the evidence-driven storytelling that helped establish Forensic Files as a defining true-crime series.
