Olga Kurylenko and Alex Pettyfer are teaming up for Breakwater, a new crime thriller that turns a luxury yacht into the setting for a dangerous blackmail scheme. WestEnd Films has boarded the film for worldwide sales, with the project set to begin production in Malta in April 2027.
Directed by Luc Walpoth, the film brings together two actors with extensive experience in action and thriller projects. Kurylenko is known for Quantum of Solace, Oblivion and Black Widow, while Pettyfer’s credits include Magic Mike and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
A Blackmail Plan Turns Into a Fight for Survival
In Breakwater, Kurylenko plays Iris, a woman trapped in a toxic marriage. She forms an alliance with Daya, a bartender who wants to escape her hometown, and the two women attempt to blackmail Iris’ sadistic husband, Avery, played by Pettyfer.
Their plan unfolds aboard Avery’s luxury yacht, but the scheme quickly spirals out of control. The women find themselves stranded on the open water, facing a desperate situation with no clear escape and no one they can trust.
The setup places the film in the territory of a contained crime thriller, with the yacht and surrounding sea creating a high-pressure environment for betrayal, suspense and shifting alliances.
Luc Walpoth Directs the Mediterranean Neo-Noir
Walpoth, whose previous credits include In Tandem and Dead Money, will direct from a screenplay by Tad Daggerhart. The film is being described as a Mediterranean neo-noir, contrasting the region’s scenic coastline with a story built around manipulation and danger.
Daggerhart is also producing alongside Kurt Wimmer, Jib Polhemus and Hannah Leader. Malta Film Service is expected to handle local production, crew integration and rebate structuring during the shoot.
WestEnd Films will introduce the project to international buyers at the American Film Market in November 2026. The sales company’s involvement gives the film an early route into the global market while production remains ahead.
Another Thriller Reunion for the Leads
Kurylenko and Pettyfer previously appeared together in the 2024 spy thriller Chief of Station, making Breakwater another collaboration between the two performers. Their new roles place them on opposite sides of a volatile marriage and a scheme that quickly becomes a survival story.
With filming planned for Malta in April 2027, further casting and release details have yet to be announced. For now, Breakwater is shaping up as a tense, location-driven thriller that combines crime, psychological pressure and a dangerous escape at sea.
