Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Russell Crowe’s upcoming Hollywood sci-fi action thriller Bluefly has added another familiar face to its cast. Daniel MacPherson, who recently starred alongside Crowe in the action drama Beast, has officially joined the project, reuniting with the actor and writer David Frigerio. Directed by Nimród Antal, the film is expected to begin shooting shortly on Australia’s Gold Coast, which will double for its Congo setting.
MacPherson will portray Dugan, a Special Forces soldier whose years of combat experience make him an important part of the film’s dangerous mission. His addition further strengthens the ensemble of a project that combines science fiction, military action and survival thriller elements.
What Is Bluefly About?
Bluefly follows Myla Reese, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a United Nations translator dealing with personal grief. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes involved in a secret operation to recover a mysterious aircraft that has crashed deep inside the Congo.
Russell Crowe plays Broyles, the special-operations commander leading the mission. As the team travels through militia-controlled territory, the operation becomes increasingly dangerous, with the aircraft hiding a secret that could change everything.
The film’s premise combines military action with a science-fiction mystery, giving the makers an opportunity to explore both large-scale action sequences and character-driven storytelling.
Daniel MacPherson Reunites With Russell Crowe
MacPherson’s casting is particularly interesting because he recently worked with Crowe in Beast, the mixed martial arts action drama written by David Frigerio. Their reunion in Bluefly brings together three people who have already collaborated on the earlier project.
The Australian actor has also appeared in films including Land of Bad, Poker Face, A Wrinkle in Time and The Osiris Child. His television credits include Foundation, Strike Back and The Shannara Chronicles.
For MacPherson, playing a battle-hardened Special Forces soldier offers another opportunity to explore the action genre.
Bluefly Brings Together an Experienced Filmmaking Team
Nimród Antal, known for directing Predators, is directing the film from a screenplay by David Frigerio, William Eubank and Carlyle Eubank. The production is backed by Michael Jefferson, David Frigerio, Deborah Glover, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier and Vanessa Yao Guo.
Highland Film Group is handling worldwide distribution rights.
For Priyanka, Bluefly adds another international project to her growing Hollywood filmography. The actress continues to balance global productions with her upcoming Indian cinema projects, including S S Rajamouli’s Varanasi.
With Crowe, Chopra Jonas and MacPherson now attached, Bluefly is shaping up as an ambitious science-fiction action thriller. The next major update to watch for will be the start of principal photography and further casting announcements.
