Just days before cameras are set to roll on Golmaal 5, filmmaker Rohit Shetty is dealing with something far more serious than box office pressure.
Following the firing incident outside his Juhu residence on January 31, security around the director has been significantly tightened. Now, a fresh update from the Mumbai Crime Branch has revealed deeper links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang — adding another layer to an already alarming situation.
What Happened On January 31?
Four gunshots were reportedly heard outside Shetty’s Mumbai residence in the evening. Police teams reached the spot immediately and began investigations.
Soon after, a social media post allegedly linked to the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the firing. The message reportedly warned the filmmaker and threatened more severe consequences if he did not “understand” the message.
The gang has previously been associated with threats to Bollywood figures, including Salman Khan, in connection with past controversies.
New Crime Branch Findings
According to an official update shared with ANI, the Mumbai Crime Branch has identified an accused named Asaram Fasle, who allegedly worked as a garage mechanic for the Bishnoi gang for nearly four years.
Investigators claim Fasle was influenced by Shubham Lonkar, reportedly linked to the Baba Siddiqui murder case. On Lonkar’s instructions, Fasle allegedly handed over weapons to another accused, Swapnil Sakat, which were eventually passed to an unidentified shooter involved in the firing.
No arrest has yet been confirmed in Fasle’s case, but the probe is ongoing.
Earlier, police detained five individuals suspected of involvement in the incident as part of the investigation.
Security Tightened As Golmaal 5 Nears Shoot
Amid the escalating developments, Rohit Shetty’s security has been upgraded significantly.
Reports suggest that as Golmaal 5 prepares to go on floors — tentatively around mid-February — a two-tier security setup will be deployed. Around 60 security personnel are expected to guard the film’s set.
The filmmaker is also reportedly maintaining a low profile and has requested close industry friends, including Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, not to visit him for the time being.
Given that the Golmaal franchise is one of Bollywood’s most commercially successful comedy series, the timing of this security scare is particularly tense.
Industry On Edge
Threats linked to organized crime have long been a dark undercurrent in parts of the film industry. Law enforcement agencies have often noted that fear prevents many individuals from reporting such intimidation publicly.
For now, Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch continue their investigation, focusing on tracking the weapon supply chain and identifying the shooter.
Final Words
What should have been an exciting month for Rohit Shetty — gearing up to return to his blockbuster comedy universe — has instead become a moment of caution and heightened security.
The investigation is still unfolding. But one thing is clear: Bollywood’s biggest filmmakers are not immune to real-world threats.
As Golmaal 5 prepares to roll cameras, the spotlight is no longer just on entertainment — but on safety, vigilance, and swift justice.
