Comedy adventure clears certification — with conditions

The upcoming comedy-drama Rahu Ketu, starring Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma, has officially received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. However, the clearance hasn’t come without a few notable modifications.

According to industry reports, the CBFC has asked the makers to implement multiple changes before the film hits theatres this week.

What the CBFC asked the makers to change

As per reports, the certification body instructed the team to make the following edits:

  • Replace a specific dialogue in one scene
  • Remove or alter visuals depicting drug sniffing and snorting throughout the film
  • Modify the middle finger gesture, replacing it with the pinky finger
  • Delete all alcohol brand names shown on screen
  • Submit an authentication letter for the Sanskrit shloka used in the film
  • Replace the ‘Kantara’ film music (voom scream) used in a sequence

The removal of the Kantara scream has especially caught attention online, given how recognisable the sound has become in recent years.

About Rahu Ketu

Directed by Vipul Vig, Rahu Ketu is described as a comedy adventure inspired by folklore, blending humour with mythological elements. The film is produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal, Pragati Deshmukh, Suraj Singh, and Varsha Kukreja under Zee Studios and BLive Productions.

Alongside Pulkit and Varun, the film features Shalini Pandey, Chunky Panday, Piyush Mishra, Amit Sial, and Manu Rishi Chadda in key roles.

Fukrey vibes and industry backing

Pulkit Samrat recently spoke about what Rahu Ketu means to him, saying the film brings back the energy and camaraderie audiences loved in Fukrey. He added that reuniting with Varun Sharma was a joy, and that the bond they share off-screen naturally reflects on screen.

Interestingly, the project has also received early goodwill from big names like Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Sanjay Dutt, all of whom have publicly wished the team success.

Release clash ahead

Rahu Ketu is scheduled to release in theatres on January 16, where it will clash with Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Vir Das.

Final Words

With CBFC tweaks now in place, Rahu Ketu is ready to step into theatres as a cleaner, certification-compliant comedy — without its controversial bits. Whether the folklore-driven humour and Pulkit–Varun reunion strike the right chord with audiences will soon be revealed, but for now, the film has already made headlines even before release.
