AMC has officially revealed the new title and premiere date for Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season 3. The supernatural drama will return as Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven on December 30, 2026, with Alexandra Daddario reprising her role as powerful witch Rowan Fielding. The announcement came during New York Comic Con on October 9, where the cast and creative team also unveiled a new teaser offering a glimpse of the dangers awaiting the Mayfair family.
The announcement brings an unexpected change to the show’s release schedule. AMC previously indicated that Season 3 would arrive in 2027, but the confirmed December premiere means the series will return before the end of this year. The new title also reflects a significant change in setting, with the story moving to Salem, Massachusetts, a location closely associated with America’s history of witch trials.
Why Mayfair Witches Season 3 Is Called Salem Coven
The upcoming season will take Rowan away from the familiar surroundings of New Orleans and into Salem, where her growing supernatural abilities will attract new dangers.
Showrunner Esta Spalding explained during the Comic Con panel that the new setting allows the series to explore a different side of witchcraft. Rather than simply revisiting the historical Salem witch trials, the writers are creating a fictional interpretation in which witches have secretly existed within the town for centuries.
Rowan will also be more powerful following the events involving Lasher in Season 2. However, her increasing abilities will bring greater complications, particularly as she encounters unfamiliar magical families and discovers secrets connected to Salem.
The change is significant because the series is moving further beyond the established storyline of Anne Rice’s original Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels. Spalding confirmed that the new season draws inspiration from the books without following their events exactly.
That creative freedom could allow the show to explore new characters and conflicts while maintaining its connection to Rice’s supernatural mythology.
New Characters and Cast Revealed for Season 3
Alongside Daddario, returning cast members include Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair and Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve.
The new season introduces several important additions. Breaking Bad actress Betsy Brandt joins as Katherine Mayfair, while Eliza Scanlen portrays Jessica, a Salem witch who develops a friendship with Rowan.
Michiel Huisman, known for Game of Thrones and The Haunting of Hill House, will play Michael Summers, a mysterious romantic interest for Rowan who is hiding a dangerous secret.
The storyline will also revisit Cortland’s complicated family history, with Julien Mayfair’s influence creating further conflict.
Interestingly, AMC is strengthening connections between its Anne Rice adaptations. The creative team revealed that a remixed song associated with Lestat’s rock-star storyline will appear in the upcoming season, offering a musical connection to Interview with the Vampire.
Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven premieres Wednesday, December 30, 2026, on AMC and AMC+ in the United States. An India-specific release date and streaming arrangement have not yet been confirmed.
With its new setting, additional characters and increasingly powerful protagonist, Season 3 represents a substantial creative shift for the series. Whether Salem provides a more compelling supernatural mystery than the previous seasons will become clearer when Rowan’s journey continues this December.
