‘Dune 3’ Popcorn Bucket Brings Sandworms Back to Theatres

The sandworms are back, and this time, moviegoers won’t have to share with just one. AMC Theatres has unveiled its new Dune: Part Three popcorn collectibles, including a Double Sandworm design featuring two Shai-Hulud heads that supposedly make it easier to share popcorn.

The reveal arrived on October 29, bringing back memories of the viral Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket from 2024. That earlier collectible, designed with a sandworm’s open mouth as the popcorn opening, became an internet sensation for its rather suggestive appearance. It inspired countless memes and even a parody sketch on Saturday Night Live.

AMC appears ready to embrace that unexpected legacy with its latest design. The Double Sandworm collectible features two openings, giving two moviegoers their own way to reach for the snacks. According to the company’s announcement, the design makes “it easier to share popcorn.”

AMC Has Another Sandworm Surprise

The Double Sandworm is not the only option in AMC’s new collection. The theater chain has also introduced a Sandworm Thumper collectible, featuring a working thumper design. In the Dune universe, a thumper is a device used by the Fremen to attract giant sandworms by sending rhythmic vibrations into the desert sand.

AMC’s collection also includes themed drinkware and other merchandise. A statement from Hank Green, AMC’s senior vice president of Food & Beverage, acknowledged the expectations created by the previous film’s viral bucket.

“The AMC Sandworm popcorn bucket for Dune: Part Two became a viral phenomenon, and we knew that Dune fans would have high expectations for what came next,” Green said. He added that the company’s goal was to exceed those expectations, with the new collectibles taking the experience further through designs inspired by the movie.

Other cinema chains are also joining the merchandise rollout. Cinemark has revealed a Copper Sandworm popcorn bucket, while Regal is offering a collectible inspired by the Spacing Guild Navigator. These different designs give fans more than one option to add a piece of the upcoming film to their collections.

AMC’s new collectibles are expected to arrive around the film’s December release. Pricing details for the US AMC collection have not yet been announced.

The Viral Bucket Legacy Continues With Dune: Part Three

The original Dune: Part Two bucket became one of the most talked-about movie-theatre collectibles of 2024, largely because audiences quickly noticed its resemblance to something far removed from an ordinary snack container. The online reaction eventually reached mainstream entertainment, with Saturday Night Live turning the design into a comedy sketch.

Now, the sequel’s merchandise is already generating attention before the film has even reached cinemas. Whether the double opening is a practical improvement or simply another invitation for internet jokes, AMC has clearly recognised the popularity of the original design.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Three brings Timothée Chalamet back as Paul Atreides and is scheduled to open in theatres on December 18, 2026. Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa and Robert Pattinson are also part of the cast.

With the conclusion of Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy approaching, the sandworms are getting one more moment in the spotlight. And judging by the first reactions to the popcorn bucket, the merchandise may have its own viral life long before audiences return to Arrakis.
