Neve Campbell is officially returning as Sidney Prescott in Scream 8, giving the long-running horror franchise another chapter with its original leading star. The actor confirmed her involvement during an interview with the Associated Press while promoting Netflix’s Black Doves, putting an end to uncertainty about Sidney’s future after Scream 7.
When asked about her upcoming projects, Campbell included the eighth installment among her plans. She then made her involvement clear, saying, “You know I can never tell you anything about Scream 8. I’ll be in it.”
Although Campbell kept the storyline under wraps, her confirmation is significant for a franchise that has relied on Sidney as its central survivor since the original 1996 film.
Scream 7’s Box Office Success Sets Up Another Sequel
Campbell returned for Scream 7 after sitting out 2023’s Scream VI because of a salary dispute. Her comeback placed Sidney at the centre of the latest Ghostface attack, with the story introducing her life as a mother whose family becomes the killer’s target.
The seventh film performed strongly at the box office, earning approximately $208 million worldwide against a reported $45 million production budget. It became the franchise’s highest-grossing instalment, helping push the next sequel forward.
Campbell has played Sidney in six of the seven released films, making her one of the defining figures of modern horror. Her return also gives the next movie a direct connection to the original story and its legacy.
