The actor reportedly said that exploiting an intellectual property simply because audiences are ready for it is never the goal. In his words, the excitement around KGF is important, but that excitement alone cannot become the only reason to make another film. He stressed that the story itself needs to justify the continuation, otherwise there is no point in forcing a sequel purely for monetization.
That mindset is honestly quite rare in today’s franchise-heavy film industry, especially after the kind of box office numbers KGF generated worldwide. Produced by Hombale Films, the first KGF film became a surprise nationwide phenomenon after its release in 2018. Then came KGF 2 in 2022, which completely exploded at the global box office and transformed Yash into one of Indian cinema’s biggest pan-India stars.
The sequel reportedly earned more than Rs 1,200 crore globally, while the first film had already built a cult-like fanbase with its dark world-building, mass-action storytelling, and Yash’s larger-than-life Rocky Bhai character. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the franchise became one of the key projects responsible for pushing Kannada cinema onto the worldwide mainstream stage.
And honestly, that’s probably why expectations around KGF 3 feel almost impossible now. Fans are not simply expecting another sequel anymore. They expect something even bigger than Chapter 2, which is already considered one of India’s biggest commercial action films ever made. The delay created disappointment among fans, but Yash recently defended the decision by explaining that the team wants Toxic to receive a properly aligned worldwide release instead of rushing it into theatres. Apart from Toxic, Yash is also preparing for another gigantic cinematic gamble through Ramayana directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The ambitious two-part mythological epic stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi alongside Yash and is already being discussed as one of the most expensive Indian film projects ever attempted.
With so many large-scale films already in development, it honestly feels like Yash is trying to carefully build a long-term legacy instead of simply chasing quick sequels and fast releases. That approach may require patience from fans, but it also explains why he seems unwilling to announce KGF 3 until the team genuinely feels confident about where the story should go next.
