Suriya has played several memorable police officers throughout his career, but his upcoming film Scene is expected to offer something different. Director Jithu Madhavan has explained how the actor’s character, DSP Inbaraj, stands apart from his popular performances in Kaakha Kaakha and the Singam franchise. Rather than following the familiar image of a conventional police officer, the upcoming action-comedy introduces an unpredictable investigator with his own approach to solving cases.
Jithu Madhavan Explains Suriya’s Different Police Avatar
Speaking to Galatta Plus, Jithu Madhavan addressed comparisons between Suriya’s new character and his earlier cop roles, particularly ACP Anbuselvan from Kaakha Kaakha.
“There are so many things I cannot say now [before release]. Being an officer is a job. The character is totally different. Even his character ACP Anbuselvan and here in Scene, they are just the job. The situations and the challenges he faces are different. The way he approaches a problem is different. The main thing which is different in Scene is he approaches the problem in a different way than any other police. He takes on that challenge, and that is the main aspect.”
The director’s comments suggest that the difference lies less in Inbaraj’s profession and more in his personality and investigative methods. The film’s first glimpse also introduces him as an eccentric officer who does not always follow conventional police procedures.
How Scene Differs From Kaakha Kaakha and Singam
Suriya’s ACP Anbuselvan in Kaakha Kaakha became memorable for his grounded portrayal of an honest police officer, while the Singam franchise presented him as a more energetic, larger-than-life law enforcement figure.
Scene appears to take another direction by combining crime investigation with comedy and unconventional characters. The film also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen, with the latter playing an important role in the story.
When Does Suriya’s Scene Release?
Written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, Scene marks the filmmaker’s Tamil directorial debut following Malayalam films such as Romancham and Aavesham. The cast also includes Anandraj and Lal, while Sushin Shyam has composed the music.
Scene is scheduled to release in theatres on November 6, 2026, during the Diwali period. Its unusual police investigation setup and Suriya’s fresh characterisation will be central to how the film distinguishes itself from the actor’s earlier cop dramas.
