What’s making DC stand out immediately is its unusual reimagining of the classic Devdas-style tragic romance formula, but through Arun Matheswaran’s gritty and violent filmmaking lens. Instead of soft heartbreak and poetic sorrow, the trailer delivers bomb blasts, bloodshed, gang violence, police chases, and emotionally broken characters trying to survive in a brutal world. The entire atmosphere feels raw, stylish, and emotionally unstable in a way that instantly reminds viewers of cult crime dramas rather than traditional romance films.
The nearly three-minute trailer opens by introducing Lokesh Kanagaraj as Devadas and Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra. Chandra’s backstory immediately sets a dark tone for the narrative, revealing how she was allegedly sold into prostitution in Kolkata by her own parents years ago. The trailer then slowly reveals that Devadas himself is not some innocent tragic lover either. He is wanted for the murder of a police officer, while Chandra, interestingly, is shown as a doctor trapped inside this violent world.
