Tamil cinema’s recent love for Gen Z romance meets futuristic storytelling in Love Insurance Kompany — a neon-lit rom-com that tries to blend heart, humour, and artificial intelligence. Directed by Vignesh Shivan, the film brings Pradeep Ranganathan back into familiar territory, but with a sci-fi twist this time.
A Love Story Controlled By Algorithms
Set in 2040, the film builds an interesting world divided into two extremes — one where people are addicted to technology, and another where digital access is restricted.
Pradeep plays Vibe, a young man raised in a phone-free “organic” environment. His life takes a turn when he meets Dheema, played by Krithi Shetty, who lives at the opposite end — fully dependent on her digital world.
Their relationship begins on a sweet, familiar note but quickly runs into trouble when an AI-powered matchmaking system declares them incompatible. What follows is a classic “love vs system” conflict, where emotions try to fight logic — or rather, algorithms.
Fresh Idea, Familiar Treatment
The core idea — questioning how much control technology should have over human relationships — feels relevant and timely. The film taps into modern anxieties around dating apps, validation, and algorithm-driven decisions.
But while the concept feels fresh, the execution plays it safe. The narrative sticks to a predictable arc, and the conflict rarely surprises.
There’s a clear attempt to say something meaningful about digital dependency, but the film often chooses entertainment over deeper exploration.
Performances Keep It Alive
Pradeep Ranganathan carries the film with ease. His comic timing, casual dialogue delivery, and monologue-heavy style once again connect with younger audiences. It’s a space he’s comfortable in — maybe a little too comfortable.
Krithi Shetty brings the right mix of innocence and social-media-driven behaviour to her role, making her character feel believable in this world.
The real spark, though, comes from S. J. Suryah, who plays the ambitious tech mastermind behind the compatibility system. His performance adds both intensity and entertainment, especially in scenes with Pradeep.
Supporting actors like Yogi Babu and Gouri G. Kishan do their part well, adding humour and balance to the story.
Style, Music, And That Sci-Fi Touch
Visually, the film leans heavily into bright, stylised frames, giving it a distinct futuristic vibe. The world-building is engaging, even if not fully explored.
Music by Anirudh Ravichander adds energy, fitting well with the film’s tone, while the cinematography by Ravi Varman and Sathyan Sooryan keeps things visually appealing.
But the pacing does take a hit. The film feels stretched in parts, and trimming it down could have made the narrative tighter and more effective.

What works is the film’s relatability. Despite the futuristic setting, the emotions feel grounded. The humour lands, the performances are engaging, and the premise is easy to connect with.
