Even as Ranveer Singh enjoys the box office momentum of Dhurandhar The Revenge, a controversy from last year has resurfaced — and it’s now playing out inside the courtroom.
Actor Agrees To File Revised Apology
In the ongoing case linked to his mimicry of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara performance, Ranveer has now told the Karnataka High Court that he is ready to submit a revised affidavit of apology.
Through his legal counsel, Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya, the actor expressed regret and clarified that he had no intention of hurting religious sentiments. According to the statement presented in court, Ranveer said he did not realise at the time that his actions could offend devotees connected to the cultural depiction.
He also mentioned his background, stating he was not fully aware of the sensitivities surrounding the portrayal, and reiterated an unconditional apology.
Temple Visit Promise Still Stands
As part of his earlier affidavit, Ranveer had also committed to visiting the Chamundi temple to offer prayers — a gesture meant to show respect and acknowledge the sentiments involved.
That assurance remains intact, even as the actor prepares to submit a revised version of his apology.
Complainant Not Fully Convinced
However, the matter is far from resolved. The complainant has argued that the original affidavit lacked genuine remorse and pointed out that Rishab Shetty had reportedly asked Ranveer to stop the imitation during the event itself.
Following this, Ranveer’s legal team has agreed to rework the language of the apology in consultation with the complainant before resubmitting it to the court.
Justice M Nagaprasanna has now adjourned the case until April 23, giving both sides time to address the concerns.
What Triggered The Controversy
The issue dates back to November last year during the International Film Festival of India in Goa. While praising Kantara: Chapter 1, Ranveer briefly mimicked a key sequence associated with the film’s spiritual and cultural elements.
The moment didn’t land well. Rishab, present on stage, reportedly signalled him to stop — but the imitation was repeated, which later led to backlash and eventually legal action.
Where Things Stand Now
Ranveer had already issued a public apology earlier, stating his intent was to appreciate the performance, not mock it. But with the matter now under judicial scrutiny, the focus has shifted to how sincerely that apology is communicated.
For now, the actor is attempting to close the chapter with a revised statement — but whether that satisfies all parties will become clearer when the case resumes later this month.
