As Dhanush gears up for the release of Tere Ishq Mein, the actor returned to a place that changed the course of his career — Varanasi. The film marks his third collaboration with director Aanand L Rai, the duo behind the much-loved 2013 hit Raanjhanaa. And even after more than a decade, the people of the city still greet him with the same name that made him a household favourite: Kundan.

A Nostalgic Walk Through the City That Made Him a Star

Dhanush shared a series of photos from his visit on Instagram, capturing moments of him strolling through the ghats, sipping chai at familiar spots, and walking along the narrow lanes with Aanand L Rai.
In his caption, he wrote:

A walk through the memory lane. Where it all started. KUNDAN. A character that refuses to let go of me… The name Kundan still echoes in the narrow lanes of Banaras as people call out to me and I still turn and smile.

The actor’s throwback instantly resonated with fans who still associate him with the emotionally charged character from Raanjhanaa.

‘Now It’s Time for Shankar’

Continuing his post, Dhanush added how surreal it felt to revisit the same places where he had filmed more than a decade ago.

Walking through the same lanes, sitting in front of the same house, sipping chai from the same tea shop, and walking by the Ganges with the man who gave me Kundan… feels like a full circle.
Now it’s time for Shankar. Tere Ishk Mein… FROM TOM. Har Har Mahadev.

With Tere Ishq Mein, Dhanush steps into a new character named Shankar, marking a fresh chapter in his long-standing creative partnership with Aanand L Rai.

Tere Ishq Mein: What We Know So Far

Announced on the 10th anniversary of Raanjhanaa, the film pairs Dhanush with Kriti Sanon and is backed by Aanand L Rai, Himanshu Sharma, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar under the banners of T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions, and Gulshan Kumar’s label.
The music is composed by A.R. Rahman, returning once again to create the soundtrack for a Dhanush–Aanand collaboration.

The film releases in theatres on November 28.

Final Words

Dhanush’s sentimental return to Varanasi has added an emotional layer to the excitement surrounding Tere Ishq Mein. For fans who still remember the magic of Kundan, seeing the actor step back into those same streets — now ready to introduce a new character — feels like cinema coming full circle.
