The world of The Boys may have wrapped up its fifth and final season this week, but Amazon clearly isn’t ready to leave the chaos of Vought behind. Fans finally got their first proper look at Vought Rising on Friday, and the new footage already feels darker, stranger, and way more disturbing than many expected. Instead of moving forward after the events of the main series, this new chapter goes decades backward into 1950s New York, where the ugly roots of Vought International first started growing. The trailer leans heavily into retro visuals, old-school superhero propaganda, and creepy medical experiments that slowly built the corrupt world fans already know from the original show.
One of the biggest moments in the trailer is seeing Soldier Boy suit up for the very first time. Jensen Ackles returns to the role with a vintage-looking superhero outfit that honestly looks pulled straight from a war-era comic book. The footage also teases the early experiments happening inside Sage Grove Center, the terrifying psychiatric facility longtime viewers will remember from earlier seasons of “The Boys.” Scientists appear to be testing dangerous versions of Compound V on humans, and the trailer suggests Vought’s obsession with creating superheroes was far more brutal than anyone imagined before. The atmosphere feels less like a superhero show and more like a twisted Cold War horror thriller.
Soldier Boy and Stormfront Finally Share the Screen
Another major reveal from the trailer is the return of Stormfront, played once again by Aya Cash. Fans of Season 2 already know how dangerous and manipulative Stormfront became before her violent downfall, and the series now looks ready to explore her earlier years alongside Soldier Boy. Their first partnership is teased throughout the footage, and honestly, it already feels like a toxic alliance waiting to explode. Since Stormfront’s Nazi history became one of the most shocking twists in the original series, the prequel now has a chance to dig much deeper into how Vought secretly operated during that era. That alone could make this one of the franchise’s most controversial stories yet.
The trailer also introduces several new characters joining the expanding Vought universe. Mason Dye returns as Bombsight after briefly appearing in Season 5, while Elizabeth Posey plays a nurse-inspired supe called Private Angel. Will Hochman steps in as Torpedo, alongside cast members KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith. Amazon seems to be building another large ensemble instead of focusing only on familiar faces, which probably means the series will explore multiple sides of early Vought history rather than just Soldier Boy’s rise.
Amazon Expands the Vought Universe Again
Even though “The Boys” officially ended, it doesn’t really feel like the franchise is slowing down anytime soon. Amazon has already found huge success with spin-offs connected to the universe, especially with younger audiences who followed “Gen V.” Now “Vought Rising” looks positioned to become the franchise’s biggest expansion yet because it explores the origins of almost everything fans questioned in the main show. The 1950s setting also gives the creators room to explore politics, propaganda, celebrity culture, and military influence in a completely different way compared to the modern-day satire from “The Boys.” That change alone makes the series feel fresh instead of just another continuation.
Along with starring in the series, Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash are also attached as producers. Paul Grellong serves as showrunner and executive producer, while longtime franchise architect Eric Kripke remains involved behind the scenes. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Neal H. Moritz, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson and several other producers are also attached to the project. The series is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, with a planned release currently set for 2027.
