Emily Blunt has opened up about one of the most unusual challenges she faced while working on Steven Spielberg’s upcoming science-fiction thriller Disclosure Day. At a time when artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in film production, the actress revealed she deliberately avoided using AI for a crucial sequence and instead relied on her own voice to create something far more unsettling and human.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Hot Ones, Blunt admitted that the idea of AI playing a major role in the scene made her uncomfortable. Rather than letting technology generate the effect, she chose a more old-school approach that eventually became part of one of the movie’s most important moments.
Emily Blunt Created Alien Sounds Herself Instead of Using AI
In Disclosure Day, Blunt plays a Kansas City television meteorologist whose life takes a shocking turn after she becomes affected by a mysterious extraterrestrial force during a live weather broadcast. One particularly demanding sequence features her character gradually losing control while speaking in a strange, non-human language.
According to Blunt, the scene was filmed as a lengthy single take that builds tension before the transformation fully takes over. While modern filmmaking could have used AI-generated audio effects to achieve the result, she said that option never felt right to her. The actress explained that she has concerns about the growing use of AI and preferred to experiment with her own voice instead.
To make the sequence work, Blunt spent time recording an assortment of unusual sounds. She produced clicking noises, humming patterns, distorted breathing, and other vocal effects that could later be manipulated by the sound department. Those recordings were then transformed into the eerie alien-like language heard in the film. The process gave the scene a more organic quality and allowed the filmmakers to create something unique without depending on artificial intelligence.
Spielberg Returns to Familiar Sci-Fi Territory
The project marks another major science-fiction outing for Steven Spielberg, whose career has been closely associated with stories about extraterrestrials and futuristic worlds. The filmmaker developed the story alongside David Koepp, a longtime collaborator who previously worked with him on Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and several other blockbuster productions.
Scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 12, Disclosure Day features a strong ensemble cast that includes Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.
During the same interview, Blunt also revealed that Spielberg’s iconic Jaws remains her favorite movie of all time. She praised the director’s ability to blend large-scale spectacle with emotional storytelling, saying that his films always carry a strong human element beneath the action.
The actress also looked back on one of the scariest moments of her own career while filming Mary Poppins Returns. Blunt recalled being suspended high above the ground for the character’s magical arrival sequence and admitted that her fear of heights nearly pushed her past her limit. Even after several takes, she said the experience remained one of the most frightening she has ever faced on a movie set.
