After making headlines around Bombay Stories and its Cannes presence, former Miss Teen World Sushmita Singh is now stepping into another ambitious project that will take her beyond Indian cinema. The actress has officially signed a new international feature backed by French producer Eric Atlan, and the film is already being planned on a much larger scale than a typical romance drama.
According to early information around the project, the story follows an Indian girl who falls in love with an American man, while a French actor is expected to play the main antagonist. The makers are planning to shoot the film across multiple locations in India, France, and the United States, giving the project a strong global setup right from the start. Even though several casting details are still being kept secret, the cross-country production has already started generating curiosity inside independent film circles.
The timing also feels important because international collaborations involving Indian actors have become increasingly common in recent years. Festival-backed films, especially those blending Indian and Western settings, are finding a larger audience globally through streaming platforms and international film markets. This new project seems to be aiming for that same international route.
Cannes Appearance Reportedly Led To The Opportunity
Interestingly, Sushmita reportedly auditioned for the project while attending the Cannes Film Festival for Bombay Stories alongside Mouni Roy and Anupria Goenka. The actress had travelled to the festival as part of promotions connected to the Rahhat Shah Kazmi-directed film, and industry insiders now say the new collaboration with Eric Atlan began during that Cannes visit itself.
Bombay Stories had already attracted attention because of its association with stories inspired by legendary writer Saadat Hasan Manto. The film’s festival buzz appears to have opened several new doors for younger actors attached to the project, especially those looking to enter international cinema spaces.
Producer Eric Atlan is also a well-known name in French independent filmmaking. Over the years, he has worked on projects like Adrenaline, Les grandes bouches, and Les démons de Jésus. Reports suggest his upcoming film with Sushmita is being planned as a full-fledged feature intended for international festival screenings once production wraps up.
Actress Also Busy With Telugu Film Alongside Maadhav Bhupathiraju
Apart from the international feature, Sushmita is simultaneously working on a Telugu-language project opposite Maadhav Bhupathiraju, nephew of Ravi Teja. Sources connected to the film reportedly confirmed that two songs have already been shot, while the rest of the production is currently moving ahead.
The actress seems to be carefully building a multi-industry career instead of limiting herself to a single film space. Younger performers today are increasingly balancing regional cinema, festival films, OTT projects, and international collaborations together, and Sushmita appears to be following a similar path.
For now, the untitled Eric Atlan project remains in early stages, but the international production scale and planned festival strategy have already made it one of the more closely watched upcoming indie collaborations involving a rising Indian actress.
