Tamannaah Bhatia’s ‘Ragini 3’ Adds Aayush Sharma as Franchise Heads Into Major Horror Reboot

Tamannaah Bhatia’s ‘Ragini 3’ Adds Aayush Sharma

Tamannaah Bhatia’s upcoming supernatural thriller Ragini 3 is quietly building one of the more unexpected ensemble casts in recent Bollywood horror space. After months of speculation around the film’s direction and delays in production, the project has now locked another major addition. According to Variety India, Aayush Sharma has officially joined the cast in a pivotal role opposite Tamannaah.

The film is being directed by Shashanka Ghosh, known for films like Khoobsurat and Veere Di Wedding, and the latest casting reportedly completes the core lead lineup of the movie. Alongside Tamannaah and Aayush, the film also stars Junaid Khan and Nargis Fakhri in important roles.

What is making the project interesting already is the way the makers appear to be reshaping the identity of the old Ragini MMS franchise. The earlier films became widely known for mixing horror with heavy erotic elements, something that made the series controversial as well as commercially popular during its time. But Ragini 3 is reportedly moving away from that formula almost entirely. Instead of leaning into adult shock value, the new film is said to focus more heavily on supernatural horror, suspense, humour, and thriller elements.

Insiders reportedly describe the project as a “date night horror” entertainer — a film designed to balance scares with commercial entertainment rather than pure dark horror. That shift honestly reflects a bigger trend happening in Bollywood right now, where horror-comedy and supernatural thrillers have started performing better with mainstream audiences than purely erotic thrillers or traditional horror films.

Tamannaah’s role is also expected to sit at the emotional center of the story. Reports suggest the actress will share romantic arcs with both Aayush Sharma and Junaid Khan inside the film, while Nargis Fakhri is reportedly playing a police officer investigating the strange events unfolding around them. The combination of romance, mystery, and supernatural tension seems to be the core structure the makers are aiming for.

The film’s production journey, however, has not been entirely smooth. Earlier, the project was supposed to begin shooting in January under director Sahir Raza. But those plans reportedly collapsed after scheduling conflicts connected to a Netflix series forced him to exit the movie. Following that setback, Shashanka Ghosh stepped in and effectively revived the project, which is now finally moving forward again.

Shooting is currently expected to begin around July 2026, with the makers reportedly eyeing a theatrical release later this year. Given the popularity of horror-comedy content in India over the last few years, industry watchers are already curious whether Ragini 3 can successfully reinvent a franchise that many people had almost written off as outdated.

For Aayush Sharma, the film could become an important career move. The actor made his debut with LoveYatri before later appearing in Antim: The Final Truth alongside Salman Khan. While his earlier films gave him visibility, many observers feel he is still searching for that one breakthrough role capable of establishing him more strongly in mainstream Bollywood. His last release, Ruslaan, attempted to position him in the action-thriller space, but Ragini 3 now offers him a completely different commercial zone.

Meanwhile, Tamannaah continues expanding aggressively across genres. The actress already has two major releases lined up this year. She will next be seen opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Vvan: Force of the Forest, which is scheduled for release on August 28. After that, she also features in Ajay Devgn’s action-adventure film Ranger, currently slated to arrive in cinemas on December 4, 2026.

Backed by Balaji Motion Pictures and producer Ektaa Kapoor, Ragini 3 now seems positioned less like a continuation of the old franchise and more like a complete tonal reboot designed for today’s theatrical audience. Whether fans of the original series accept that change or not is something the makers will likely discover once the first teaser finally drops.
