As thousands of families continue to struggle in flood-ravaged Assam, actor Randeep Hooda has stepped away from the spotlight to assist with relief efforts on the ground. The actor travelled to Sivasagar, one of the worst-affected districts, where he joined volunteers in reaching communities still cut off by rising water levels. Sharing glimpses of the rescue and relief work on social media, Hooda highlighted the urgent needs of families who remain stranded even days after the flooding began.
The floods, which started in late July, have left widespread destruction across several districts in Assam. Apart from displacing thousands of people, the disaster has damaged farmland, affected livestock, and forced many families to depend on relief camps and humanitarian assistance.
Randeep Hooda shares update from flood-hit villages
On Tuesday, Randeep Hooda posted a video on Instagram documenting his visit to flood-affected areas in Sivasagar. The footage showed the actor travelling by boat through submerged villages, delivering kitchen essentials and other supplies directly to families whose homes remain surrounded by water. He was also seen walking through knee-deep floodwater to reach residents unable to travel outside for help.
Without changing his words, Randeep said, “10 din ke baad bhi paani knees ke upar hai. Yaha kaafi families hai andar. Waha se bhi awaazein aa rahi hai humko. Abhi humara iss trip mein boat ka jo samaan hai woh khatam ho gaya hai.”
He further added, “Doosra trip marenge. Yaha ek kitchen set leke ayein hai. Ration kaafi pohoch gaya hai logo ko… everybody is thankful aur baaki cheezein Global Sikh ki team ne identify kar li hai. Kitchen utensils, chappals, daily essentials distribute karne ke liye aayein hai. Kai log toh yaha pohonch hio nahi paa rahein toh hum log jaa rahe hai andar.”
In the caption accompanying the video, the actor appealed for support, writing, “Assam is battling devastating floods, leaving countless families in urgent need of support. Every contribution can help provide relief, food, shelter and essential supplies to those affected. Let us come together and help the people of Assam through this crisis.”
Floods continue to impact thousands
According to officials, Sivasagar remains the worst-hit district, with more than 55,000 people affected by the floods. Charaideo has reported around 40,000 affected residents, while nearly 22,000 people have been impacted in Jorhat. Rescue teams and local authorities continue to monitor water levels as several regions remain inaccessible by road.
The state administration is currently operating 54 relief camps and relief distribution centres across five districts, where 13,771 people are receiving shelter and essential assistance. Many villages, however, remain difficult to access, making boat-based relief operations crucial for delivering supplies to stranded families.
The floods have also dealt a heavy blow to agriculture and livestock. Officials say more than 15,000 hectares of farmland remain underwater, while thousands of animals have either been lost or affected by the disaster. The Dhansiri River continues to flow above the danger mark at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, keeping authorities on alert for further flooding.
To support those impacted, the Assam government has released the first installment of approximately ₹160 crore in interim relief, benefiting more than 75,000 households identified as among the worst affected this year. Even as financial assistance begins reaching families, relief workers and volunteers continue to focus on delivering daily essentials to communities that remain isolated by floodwaters.
Randeep Hooda’s visit has drawn attention to the ongoing humanitarian situation in Assam, reminding people that many families are still waiting for help long after the initial flooding. As rescue and rehabilitation efforts continue, authorities and volunteers alike are urging more support to reach those who remain stranded.
