Actor Nushrratt Bharuccha has found herself at the centre of an online debate after her recent visit to the Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain. The actress attended the sacred Bhasma Aarti and was honoured with a stole by temple priests, a visit she reportedly made to seek blessings ahead of New Year 2026.
What was meant to be a spiritual moment quickly turned controversial after sections on social media questioned her presence at a Hindu temple due to her Muslim faith. The criticism intensified when Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, publicly condemned her actions, calling them a “grave sin” under Sharia law. He stated that performing puja and applying sandalwood goes against Islamic principles and demanded that the actress offer repentance and recite the Kalma.
Nushrratt’s long-standing views on faith
While Nushrratt has not responded directly to the latest remarks, her views on religion and spirituality are not new. In earlier interviews, the actress has spoken openly about her inclusive and personal approach to faith, saying she finds peace in all places of worship.
She has previously shared that she prays namaz regularly and even carries her prayer mat while travelling, but also believes that God is one and paths to connect with Him can be many. According to her, peace matters more than labels, whether it’s found in a temple, mosque, gurudwara, or church.
These comments have resurfaced amid the current backlash, with many fans coming out in her support, praising her for standing by her beliefs and promoting religious harmony.
Work front
On the professional side, Nushrratt was last seen in the silent film Ufff Yeh Siyapaa. She is currently gearing up for her next project, Bun Tikki, which is scheduled for release in 2026.
