The recent controversy involving Govinda and his long-time family priest has taken a new turn, with the actor’s wife Sunita Ahuja now addressing the matter directly in a new YouTube vlog. Days after Govinda publicly apologized on Instagram, Sunita expressed disappointment over his gesture and clarified the intention behind her earlier remarks.
Sunita Says She Never Wanted Govinda to Apologize
Speaking to viewers, Sunita said she was surprised by the criticism her earlier comments received.
“I’ve been hearing a lot that I used some wrong words,” she said. “My respected Govinda ji, who is my husband, even folded his hands and apologized — which I really didn’t like. Because let me tell you one thing, Chi Chi, I would never want you to ever fold your hands in front of anyone for me.”
“I Only Spoke About My Experience”
Sunita emphasised that her remarks were not aimed at any particular person.
“I had not named anyone, nor had I spoken about anyone specifically. Things like that happened to me, so I spoke about them,” she said.
She added that if her comments inadvertently hurt anyone, she wished to apologize to “every sidh-peeth guru and every guru at every shrine.”
However, she firmly stated that Govinda’s public clarification was unnecessary. “There was no need to explain anything to the priests who are at Govinda ji’s place right now. I felt very bad. I never want Govinda to do this,” she said.
How the Controversy Started
The issue began when Sunita appeared on Paras Chhabra’s podcast, where she spoke about a “fraud godman” and hinted that “there’s one like that in our house too.” She alleged that the priest frequently recommended expensive rituals and demanded large sums of money. “He keeps suggesting new pujas and charging lakhs for them. I tell him to do his own puja because his won’t help Govinda,” she said during the podcast.
The comments quickly went viral, leading to speculation and backlash online, following which Govinda issued a public apology.
