When Devara: Part 1 hit theatres in 2024, reactions were mixed. While the film ended with a clear setup for a sequel, the silence that followed sparked widespread speculation that Devara: Part 2 had quietly been shelved. More than a year later, fans finally have clarity — and it’s good news.
One of the film’s producers has now confirmed that the sequel is very much alive.
Devara: Part 2 Gets a Green Signal
At a recent public event, producer Sudhakar Mikkilineni was asked directly about the fate of Devara: Part 2. Shutting down all rumours, he revealed that filming is scheduled to begin in May this year, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
He added confidently that the team believes the sequel will emerge as a “blockbuster,” reassuring fans who had begun to doubt whether the project would move forward at all.
Fans React: Relief, Doubt, and Diwali Hopes
While many fans were relieved to finally hear an official update, reactions online were a mix of excitement and scepticism. Some jokingly suggested pushing expectations to 2028, while others expressed hope that the makers lock a festive release window — particularly Diwali 2027.
There were also questions about scheduling conflicts, especially around Jr NTR’s packed slate, including his upcoming collaboration with Prashanth Neel.
Why Devara Still Matters Despite Mixed Reviews
Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara: Part 1 told the story of a feared pirate-turned-protector named Devara and his son Vara — both portrayed by Jr NTR. The film also starred Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, alongside Prakash Raj, Srikanth, and Shine Tom Chacko.
Despite lukewarm critical reception, the film proved its box office muscle by collecting ₹428 crore worldwide, giving the makers enough confidence to continue the story. Several plot threads were deliberately left unresolved, making a sequel almost necessary from a narrative standpoint.
The project is backed by Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts, with Nandamuri Kalyanram also attached as producer.
Jr NTR’s Busy Road Ahead
Post Devara, Jr NTR made his much-anticipated Bollywood debut with War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and co-starring Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. Although the film earned around ₹364 crore worldwide, it failed to leave a strong impact.
Currently, the actor is shooting for his high-profile project with Prashanth Neel, reportedly titled Dragon, which is expected to release later this year — further tightening his schedule.
Final Words
With an official shoot timeline finally revealed, Devara: Part 2 has moved from uncertainty to cautious optimism. While a 2027 release still feels distant, the confirmation itself has restored faith among fans who feared the sequel would never materialise.
Now, all eyes are on how Koratala Siva plans to tie up the loose ends — and whether Devara can roar louder in its second chapter.
