Prime Video has unveiled the first full-length trailer for Blade Runner 2099, revealing a future where replicants have defeated humanity and taken control of society. Released during New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026, the footage offers a closer look at Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer’s characters, a dangerous investigation and the radically transformed Los Angeles awaiting viewers. The eight-episode limited series premieres on November 25, 2026.
Unlike the initial teaser released at San Diego Comic-Con in July, the new trailer provides a clearer understanding of the show’s central conflict. Humans, once responsible for creating and controlling replicants, have lost their dominance following an uprising. The artificial beings now occupy positions of power, while humanity struggles to survive in a world it no longer controls.
Blade Runner 2099 Trailer Reveals a Reversed World
Set 50 years after Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the series introduces Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), a replicant Blade Runner approaching the end of her predetermined lifespan. She becomes involved in an investigation involving missing replicants and a runaway concealing information that could threaten the city’s fragile stability.
Her unlikely partner is Cora (Hunter Schafer), a human fugitive who disguises herself as a replicant Blade Runner to escape persecution.
That reversal is perhaps the trailer’s most interesting revelation. In Ridley Scott’s original 1982 film, Blade Runners hunted replicants who had escaped human control. In Blade Runner 2099, a human must pretend to be one of the artificial beings who now hold power.
The footage also introduces a new dimension to the franchise’s enduring questions about mortality and identity. Even after overthrowing their creators, replicants remain vulnerable to death, with the possibility of overcoming their predetermined lifespans becoming an important part of the mystery.
What Does the Trailer Reveal About the Story?
During the New York Comic Con panel, showrunner Silka Luisa explained that the series examines humanity’s potential extinction.
“What happens when our time as a species ends?” she asked, describing the show’s central question.
The idea expands upon a theme that has defined Blade Runner since the beginning. Where the original film explored artificial beings desperate to extend their lives, the new series asks what happens when those creations become humanity’s successors.
The trailer retains the franchise’s familiar futuristic architecture and noir atmosphere while introducing a society with a different balance of power.
When Will Blade Runner 2099 Release?
Created by Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 features Ridley Scott as an executive producer, with Jonathan van Tulleken directing the first two episodes.
The supporting cast includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham and Tom Burke. Harrison Ford will not return as Rick Deckard, with the series instead introducing a new generation of characters.
All eight episodes will premiere simultaneously on Prime Video on November 25, 2026, including in India.
The trailer’s biggest promise is not simply another visually impressive journey through a futuristic Los Angeles. By reversing the relationship between humanity and its creations, Blade Runner 2099 introduces a compelling new perspective on the franchise’s oldest question: what does it really mean to be human?
