Disney+ has finally lifted the curtain on the next chapter of Made in Korea, and the first teaser suggests the stakes are about to become far more dangerous. After leaving viewers stunned with its explosive season finale, the acclaimed Korean political thriller is returning with a story that shifts the battle from a two-man rivalry to a full-scale war for power. Alongside the return of Hyun Bin and Jung Woo Sung, the new season also welcomes Woo Do Hwan, whose arrival appears set to change the entire balance of the conflict.
The teaser, released on August 4, hints at a darker and more politically charged story, with shifting alliances, family betrayal, and ruthless ambition driving the narrative. If the preview is anything to go by, the fight for control is no longer limited to law versus crime but has evolved into a battle where loyalty itself becomes a weapon.
Hyun Bin returns with greater ambitions
The newly released teaser confirms that Made in Korea Season 2 takes place nine years after the events of the first season. During that time, Baek Ki Tae, played by Hyun Bin, has climbed to an even more influential position, making it clear that his long-term plans have finally begun to unfold.
Without changing his words, Ki Tae declares, “I kept my head down, hid my claws, and waited for this moment.” The line immediately establishes that his pursuit of power has never stopped and that the years between the two seasons have only strengthened his influence.
The trailer also reveals that prosecutor Jang Geon Young, portrayed by Jung Woo Sung, remains determined to stand against Ki Tae despite everything that happened in the first season. However, this time the confrontation becomes far more complicated with the arrival of a third major player.
Woo Do Hwan joins the series as Baek Ki Hyun, Ki Tae’s younger brother. Rather than becoming an ally, Ki Hyun appears to find himself caught between opposing sides as political tensions escalate. In one of the teaser’s key moments, Geon Young confronts him with a difficult choice, saying, “Choose. Pick which side you’re on.”
The teaser concludes with another chilling line that raises expectations for the season ahead: “This is war now. It won’t end until one side dies.”
Season 1 ended with Ki Tae’s complete victory
The first season, released in 2025, introduced viewers to Baek Ki Tae, an elite Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA) operative whose respected public image concealed a massive drug-smuggling empire. Driven by experiences during the Vietnam War, Ki Tae became convinced that true power belonged to those willing to manipulate the system rather than serve it. That belief gradually transformed him into one of the country’s most dangerous figures.
Standing against him was prosecutor Jang Geon Young, whose determination to dismantle the drug network was deeply personal. After losing his mother and watching his father succumb to meth addiction, Geon Young dedicated his life to fighting the narcotics trade regardless of the personal cost. Their conflict intensified following a plane hijacking inspired by the historic Yodogo incident, exposing dangerous links between organized crime, politics, and the intelligence agency.
The season reached its climax when Geon Young believed he had finally gathered enough evidence to imprison Ki Tae. Instead, powerful political interference turned the situation completely around. Chief Cheon used his influence to protect Ki Tae, while KCIA agent Pyo Hak Su uncovered evidence exposing corruption tied to Geon Young’s own political allies.
At the same time, Ki Tae’s loyal associate Kang Dae Il falsely confessed to the drug operation under immense pressure before taking his own life in police custody. His confession shifted all responsibility away from Ki Tae, leaving Geon Young powerless to stop the conspiracy. By the end of the finale, Geon Young was arrested in handcuffs as everything he had fought for collapsed before his eyes, while Ki Tae emerged stronger than ever, secured a lucrative drug partnership with the Yakuza, and was promoted to Director General of the KCIA.
Political tensions rise in Season 2
The new teaser suggests the story will move beyond personal revenge and explore a broader political struggle unfolding under a new government. Industry speculation has also linked the upcoming season to the turbulent period surrounding the 1979 assassination of South Korean President Park Chung Hee, although the series has yet to officially confirm how closely those historical events will be incorporated into the storyline.
Alongside Hyun Bin, Jung Woo Sung, and Woo Do Hwan, the new season features Seo Eun Soo, Won Ji An, Jung Sung Il, and Roh Jae Won. With the addition of new rivalries, family conflict, and an even larger political backdrop, Made in Korea appears poised to deliver a more ambitious continuation of its crime saga.
Made in Korea Season 2 premieres on September 9 and will stream in India on JioHotstar.
